God's speed to him Anthony.
Cool. Thanks. That helps quite a bit. I appreciate it. I'll pass the word on to him.
Rog,
First and for most he has alot in store just trying to get thru A school for it is quite intense. He needs to ask questions of his options for how he preforms will provide him with a direction. From what I understand it a fairly intense and one has to put in a package for it. Son #2 spoke of a similar path but decided he wants to cross over after he get his degree. However, he is currently at FMTB which is an experience for them all. Yes, SARC is a great choice but he needs to plan and research his options.(Find a good Chief who has insight) Once he reaches his perm duty station then decide what he wants for he will experience alot between now and then. With all the changes of the DOD who knows what is available and if they will have funding. As you know it is the needs of the Navy first and for most before what you desire or would like.
Hello All. My grandson, ((HM-Devil Doc.), is homeward bound from Pacific Partnership 2012 and will be back in San Diego around mid-September. He has no idea what is in store for him, although he has expressed the idea of tuning green for awhile. Does anyone know what his options are. . . . . Thanks
Both of my boys requested FMF when they enlisted..Yes, if you do well in A school you have first pick for orders. It is far better to go through FMTB right after A School for you are still in the training mode. It is lot diff than being on the blue side. When you are there they are issued a sea bag of marine ware....
Needs of the Navy. My son graduated A school in July, and there were no FMF slots available. There will be an available jobs list come out about 1/2 way through A school, and they pick from the jobs on that list according to class rank. So it is important that the student does well in class.
First and foremost, it is the needs of the Navy/Marine Corps. As far as I know for FMF it is a volunteer request, i.e. the HM requests FMF training on his duty station requests or after assignment from his duty station. Whether the HM gets it or not depends on Marine Corps need for HMs and HM evals. I know when I got out of HM-A school (just after end of Viet Nam) about half of the males went straight to FMF because of Marine Corps need. My son is in boot camp now and will be going to HM-A school and he also wants FMF. Recruiter said he will have to put it on his dream sheet when they are able to request duty stations.
Joseph posted this in the bootcamp group- thought maybe one of you could answer his question: "Does anyone know what determines if a Corpsman goes FMF or ship? Or base?"
Jack,
May God grace and peace comfort you and your family. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
