Hafta give a salute and shout out for my boy Nick. Picked up (again) and is now HM2 (FMF) still based at LeJeune. Made E-5 in 2 yrs. 8 months! Pretty sure that made him the only Petty Officer 2nd Class in the USN that wasn't old enough to drink a beer. Turned 21 last Wednesday but was notified of his new rating in late April. Frock was 4/15. He's enjoying a 24 day chit right now back in Iowa. First time home since right after he got back from deployement last Sept. Good to have him home for a bit.
Congratulations to my son, HM Westlake and all of the other graduating corpsman today! Fair winds and following seas!
Son#1 was one of the last classes in GL and Son#2 is now at FT Sam and is loving it but not into the heat..For an AK Boy the heat is a bit more than he is use to but he just called a few days and said he got a new roommate and he too is an AK Boy from Kodaik...Yes, they keep them busy down there..
Wow, I was a Navy Corpsman too. You should be proud. They are highly respected. I didn't know the training was in San Antonio though. I went to San Diego for Corps school.
My son graduated boot camp friday. The PIR IS very impressive. He makes me a very proud dad. We went to the airport at zero dark thirty to see him off to San Antonio for corpsman school this morning.
THANK YOU to all for the PIR info that people have posted. My wife is on "Navyformoms" and went to the "Sarge's" meet and greet. He gave us additional info that helped us get to the PIR. He gave us a great tip for the early bird to get a parking place. We froze inside the hall. A "bun" cushion helped ease the bleachers(because of being an early bird).
If I had to do it again I would have flown into Milwaukee instead of Midway. A friend had suggested it to us after we had already purchased plane tickets.

you'll discover the 8 weeks goes by much faster than you think it will....
As a comment...I've dealt with a lot of parents since I got involved with this site and many before PIR were lamenting about the short amount of time that were going to get to spend with their sailors after PIR. After PIR however, not one ever complained about only being able to see their sailors for a few minutes or for a couple of hours....all commented they would not have traded that short amount of time together for anything in the world.
you cannot have electronic devices on RTC grounds so if you return to a ship after PIR you'll be "phoneless". When you fly out you can get your phone at the airport or wait until you get an address at A-school and receive it by mail.....and you'll know what time your flight departs by PIR
