My son is in his 3rd week and they are learning more in a short period of time than what my roommates learned in 2 yr of nursing. I was a major in Engineering so it was interesting to hear about their clinical. Years later, now I am listening to my son's experiences of the health care. As a student in HS, he was not much into academics for it came too easy; however, now as a student in the military he is finding school to be a challenge and is having a great time (Wow! the light came on and it is shining bright). Also, from what I hear they are even required to study on the weekends, what a shame Ha Ha!

Mark,
As they say of procedures in teaching hospitals: "see one, do one, teach one."! They call them "teaching hospitals" because if they called them "learning hospitals" it would scare the patients. The corpsmen seem to keep everybody healthy, so the Navy system must work. It's kind of fun to get email like: "I did my first Pap smear today!"

Well, San Diego is a pretty nice spot. "Jake's at the Beach" in DelMar is a good place for a splurge meal.

Congrats to Benjamin on NEC HM "quad-zero". I hope somebody is giving him a flu shot! Does he have an assignment yet? My son, Daniel, is headed back to NSA New Orleans on Tuesday (by car). He's looking forward to the food and the music, but unclear on what they will have him do as he trained others to do his previous job before he deployed with the Marines. His "HM1" says "see ya in a week or so."

Hi all, this ast Saturday I was going to post a happy note that our son had just returned from Iraq when I read the note about the loss to the Castiglione and Hario families. We know it can happen but always cuts deep. Our prayers go out to their loved ones and know they will not be forgotten.

We are thankful for the safe return of our son Thomas, after his six month tour in Iraq at Al Asad. He reported back to Pendleton (and his wife!) Monday, has a few days off before starting work again. Seems strange to have him back in the States again, but so great!

Kevin - my son graduated from GL in Feb 09 and A school there in June 09. The rules haven't changed from the sounds of stories my son told me. At A school they had a couple shake downs of the barracks. Results were amazing what was found and punishment varied by the items. He too had to wait almost a week to transfer over from basic side so we had to wait and mail his laptop, etc

Mark -- Your son has had an amazing enlistment so far!! The youtube and now this. wow! And even more incredible that it was your birthday! happy belated birthday!! I'll bet your son was estatic!! neat!

Yes, prayers and thoughts to the families of the Castiglione and Hario families. Also to the families to those who lost loves from the 501st (Alaskan Bridgrade, Fort Richardson, AK). Yes, it is all too close to home and it is truly time for a change. Hope it comes soon...I am speaking as a Vet and now as Parent.
