Greetings all, I have a question. Our son is at METC and should graduate "A" school on 3 Oct 13. He's hoping to stay at METC for "C" school for Orthopedic Tech. If he's awarded that school, how long will he be there?
Thanks,
Pete
thanks for the link Paul - good one. My son just finished his FMTB at Camp Pendleton. Now to his duty stateside. All information is good information.
Welcome to "Scrubbing In," brought to you by Navy Medicine. Scrubbing In is the only show that takes you across the Navy Medicine enterprise and shows its vast capabilities. In this episode, hosts Paul Ross and Josh Wick take you to the Navy Medicine Aviation Survival Training Center in Patuxent River, Md., to showcase what the personnel there do to keep our Sailors and Marines ready and fit to fly! (Produced by U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Visual Information Directorate, published April 10, 2013).
And apologies to my son Eric, he is with the First Marine Division.
@ ROG -- You are very right. Needs of the Navy always come first.
@ PETER SWISHER -- Even if your son doesn't get what he wants the first time, tell him to keep applying when he can. As you already now though, few things happen quickly in the military. And if he plans a career in medicine any and every experience in medicine is a bonus.
just for the record, my son just got out of San Antonio and didn't get any of his top choices, even though he was #2 in his class, had been to the fleet before, and was previously in special forces - all of which he was told would give him his top choices. It always comes down to the needs to the Navy, not the wants/needs of the HMs. It's not a bad thing, but just the reality.
@ PETER SWISHER -- Forgot to add my son did have 2 weeks off over holiday period. Christmas/New Year's is the only time I know of where schools shut down for an extended period. They will be closed on all of the National holidays. Best of my knowledge, boot camps may or may not train on holidays.
Randall,
Thanks huge bunches!!! You told me what I needed to know in order to advise him. He is kind of thinking about FMF, as well as considering something like surgery tech. He reported 20Mar. He's on Ship 14 Div 191. We haven't heard from him yet, although some folks at Navy4Moms have heard from their SRs in the same unit.
