Hi Steve, You will find that bootcamp is quite the experience...for you and you kid. Good luck to your boy I'm sure he will enjoy the Navy.

Cindy- My boy is OK with both the FMF or the Navy side. He just doesn't want to do anything in dental. He mainly wants to hurry up and get through all his training so he can finally get settled down some place.

My son Brendan leaves for Boot October 7. He is going in to become a Corpman but hasn't decided on what part yet. I do know he says he doesn't want to be in a Hosp some place he wants to be outside possibly doing mainly trauma. I told him he needs to look at all the possibilities and make a decision before too long.

Cindy-
Eric is doing his clinicals at the psych ward too and seems to be enjoying himself. He too liked the "Casualty Assessment" portion of the training. He echoed what you'd said about the "Battle Stations" like immediacy of the training. We not really been concerned about his physical training because he has always been an athlete, academically however, that's a whole different world. He tended to stay eligible during the sports seasons in high school then would shut down afterwards. It used to kill us, I used to coach college football and had a pretty good idea as to what he was capable of doing but his focus just wasn't in the classroom. We're glad that this portion of his life is way behind him and that he's finding academic success in the Navy.
His mom is somewhat nervous of his chosen career path as a greenside corpsman, but I've explained to her that if the good lord wants you to be with him, there is nothing you can do about it. I was a SAR crewman when I was in the Navy and my parents weren't happy about that either. Are you going to be able to attend your son's graduation at Camp Pendleton?

Rich-
Eric is very excited to have done well at Corpsman "A" school and find success in the classroom. His mom and I are very proud of him getting through the academic portion of his schooling. He's excited to get to Twentynine Palms after being at Camp Pendleton, he says that he'll be working at the hospital on base there but is going to volunteer to go IA and hopes to get out of the states to "see the world". I was fortunate as a young man to have been stationed aboard the USS Enterprise and was able to do 2 World Cruises. I thank you very much for the generosity to help Eric out while he's out there, I will let him know that the offer is there.

Hello Rich ~ Congrats to your son, he's on his way! Morgan just completed FMTB in CP, he'll be graduating Wednesday (YAY!). I was telling him that a FMTB, from Camp LeJeune, is headed to CP for training at 29 Palms and before their graduation, they were able to have lunch with their new CO's. I asked him if they were going to do that, he said no and the CL guys were the 'woosie FMTB's". He went on to explain that training was easier at CL because that's where the girls go. Just decided I need to smack him one for saying that! So, I guess your son should hope he ends up at CP for training. Doesn't mean he has to stay there. One of the corpsman is headed for Japan shortly after graduation next week.

Does your son want to go FMTB?

Hi Bob ~ What is your son doing in clinicals? Morgan was put in the psyc ward. His graduation was close to Christmas so his group didn't get to do the 'casualty assessment' section. There were one or two more classes that they were trying to get pushed through before Christmas. You'll have to let me know if he was able to do that and if he liked it. I've heard, from another Navy mom, that it can be quite fun for the guys, almost like BattleStations! When will he have to report to CP? I'm guessing he has at least a week's leave, or more, before reporting.

My Morgan wasn't a stellar student in high school either. He realized, when he wasn't accepted at BSU due to his grades, he had screwed himself. Silly part is he did his homework but never bothered to turn it in and received A's and B's on tests! I have to look at it that this is the Lord's plan for him, scary as that is. Hard for a mom to imagine her son on the front line getting shot at. Morgan was telling us tonight that they had a really long boring day today, and to help pass the time, they talked about how they might get shot in the face, or killed, etc. Things a mom really doesn't want to hear, but yet wants to know what they talked about since "you said you didn't want to know" was said.

Good luck to your son. I can tell you it won't be anything like Navy BC and a lot of stuff they were told in GL can be thrown out the window in regards to what FMTB training will be like. Morgan's group was told it would be easy, it won't be.

Congratz to you Bob, sounds like your son has a great navy career ahead of him. My kid hopes he ends up somewhere other than 29 Palms, we only live about an hour from there. He jokes about joining the Navy to see the world and ending up right where he left off. But, he has to go where the navy sends him!

Well good luck to your son and keep me posted on his progress. If he needs any help out here in CA. let me know.

Congrats Richard and kudos to your son. Our son is finally in clinicals and will be graduating next Thursday. We're very excited for him. He then goes to Camp Pendleton for FMTB then onto Twentynine Palms. He failed one test while at "A" school and it was a real wake up for him. He was not what you'd call a stellar student during high school, but this was great for him. He learned to manage his time, ask for help and attend study sessions with the EPO. I was nervous when he was able to get off-base liberty because I feared him losing focus, it was not the case, he actually turned it on and did very well. He's ready to leave and excited to move on in the next phase of his naval career.

Hi Guys, haven't posted in this group yet so I figured I would introduce myself. My name is Rich and my boy is in HM A-school at NHCS Great Lakes. Just passed his first test today so he's off to a good start. Look forward to here about your sailors and their HM stories.

Thanks ~ I did try the link, but I didn't get anywhere. I guess I'll just have to wait until he graduates. It's more for me than anything. Other corpsman moms know their son is assigned to Palm 29 or Marine Intelligence, I'd like to know where Morgan will be. Oh well. Patience...ugh!
