For what it is worth, my son, although he has enjoyed the (greenside) Navy & prospered there, has decided not to re-enlist (in Oct.), but to stay in New Orleans and finish his BA at Tulane.  In my view, his time as a Corpsman has really prepared him for his academic future.

Just returned from Great Lakes to attend our son's Corpsman graduation. If you have a son or daughter in the program I strongly suggest you try and attend. He's home for Thanksgiving and were proud of all the sailors that received their certificates.
Congratulations too all! Alex will be off to FMTB in Calif soon.

Gentlemen, I feel so humbled and grateful. Because of the comments and sacrafices of everyone here, I am in awe. I did not have the opppurtunity to serve our great country, but my son has decided to do his duty. He just arrived in Great Lakes (early November). My letter to him stated that next week "real boot camp" starts. He wants to become Corpsman, and I am sure he will.
Thank all of you who have served, are serving, or have helped a loved one along their military life.

David, When my son was in the desert in Iraq, we used the Marines' "Motomail" for letters, and facebook for everyday short communication (including pictures). I imagine that there are good computer hookups in Italy, so facebook should work well, maybe MySpace too.

My son recently started his duty at Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. We were wondering how to contact him in a cost friendly way. difficult with skype as time differences. As a new person at the base he is still learning about everything. He likes the tours. Any info on contacting him would be most helpful. Thanks.
