How exciting Jim! Congrads, another sailor is born!

Crystal, thanks for the help and encouragement, my daughter has never been attached to a ship before, she's an IS and usually on her own, it'll be different to say the least but sounds easier and safer! thanks as soon as she gets her address i'll let you know.

To Dr 2x4, Angio edema is way worse than a case of the hives. I have taken care of young people in ICU (as a nurse ) with it. They have come close to death. Do they know what caused the reaction? There is a Angio Edema clinic at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland. Medical Discharges are not easy to come by I saw 2 in four years at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Jacksonville FL.

Navy Moms,
Our son is in Bootcamp ship 011 div 024. We have just been notified that he has been moved to ship 5. He is being Medically discharged for what they are calling Angio Edema or in this instance a case of hives. To say that we are devastated by this is a huge understatement. He was going down the path to be a nuke aboard a submarine. It looks like that dream is over. We understand the logic of their position but that does not make it any easier for us. We are in the process of filling an appeal but it does not look promising. My question is can he change is job at this late date? How can he do that? Any other thoughts or suggestions for us?

Blondie, I have a young sailor on a fast frigate(?sp) and my son on the aircraft carrier. They both have email and check it frequently. Devin is not as often as Justen. But is is just a friend of my son. Yet he does keep in touch. We have been a second home for him for a long time.
Once she is attached to a ship check out the ships web site. Then you maybe able to request membership to family and friends on the site. It is how they keep the families basically in touch with the ship. I belong to the reagan site. They do not list dates and such. OSPEC just like here. But that is how I got toll free numbers to listen to the skippers update ect.. It helps when you wonder what they are up to and how close they are to port. There is a area for on going discusions between parents family wifes and husbands. Kinda of nice. We sned justen a box every two weeks of things he likes or needs. Magazines, drink mix,new socks, snacks, even a new toohbrush. Using the flat rate priority mail box it is about $12 to ship. It does take about 10 days to 3 weeks to reach them. Just ask if you have any questions. Will be glad to give you any little suggestions to help you feel more in touch. From a husband on a ship to a son now I have 10 cruises at least 4 months to ten months long as the at home person. Things change some each time but are basically the same.
Sounds like she will be with the GW( George Washington Carrier Group). If you give me her Address later will be glad to send hher a card once a month or so. It lifts the sailors spirts to get support mail from other Americans that support them in their efforts. Will keep you in my prayers.

james, mom thanks for the encouraging words, i'm no stranger to deployment, she's been in the middle east for 2 years. she's and IS and goes "out" on assignments. we never know where or for how long. being and IS she always goes alone. and taking pictures is out of the question. the only pictures we have of her are in her bathroom.LOL

crystal, that's the whole point, they want her to get more specialties(countries) under her belt. with the war on, she's been concentrating on iran and iraq. hope you're right about computors and communications, i'd love to be able to e-mail her or call her. hope everything is going well for you. Money is a Big issue.

I can see why you are trilled and disappointed. Japan is a wonderful place to visit to bad it is so far from home. The ship will take her all to sorts of neat ports. I know how your heart is breaking. I can't get enough money together to go to SD ca. The harder I work the more other things come up. It is just not fair sometimes. Well at least they have computers on ship. Justen and I emailed almost daily. We can hope and pray she gets leave soon to be close to you again. Crystal

Blondie, Do not worry for time flys quickly and have her send lots of photos and videos of her experience. You need to plan accordingly and begin to plan for a trip to Japan to see here and even look into learning the language.

crystal, did i tell you get recieved her next orders...JAPAN for 3 years. although i'm crying and my heart is broken She's as happy as can be...go figure. another 3 year deployment! she'll be upon a destroyer this time, so depending when it leaves she may or maynot get to come home. Good for her! but oh how i miss her already.
