Bainite, this is great stuff. My son goes to boot camp in Nov. then onto Nuke school. We have been wondering about the schooling and how he can finish the degree after he gets to the fleet. I will be forwarding these links to him this morning. Thanks again.

Hi Joshua C.

Which Edison College?

The link beneath your post went to a 'suspicious area' according to my antivirus software.

Edison College works closely with the Navy and your nuke kids will get significant credit towards a BS in Nuclear Engineering with them. They will be able to take classes once they get their quals out of the way.

The last I heard the Navy would not release the class syllabus for Nuke school. (classified) This results in many schools not accepting our Sailors work and schooling. I don't know if that has changed in the last couple of years or not.

There are a couple of schools that do take at least some of the credits.

I don't know if any of this has changed is the last couple years but that is how it stood when my son graduated in 2011.

Does anyone know what the graduation ceremony (if any) is like at Ballston Spa? My son graduates this month and has his next duty station (fast attack).

B'head, that is great to hear.  I bet it is a relief just to know what's around the corner.

My son has his first "real" duty assignment.  He's headed to a fast attack home ported in Groton.  Mom & I are very happy.  He'll be done with prototype the end of this month.  :-)

Hi all, my son finally graduates from Boot Camp on Friday and just called to inform us that they completed Battle Stations this morning. We hadn't heard from him in 5 weeks, but he told us that he was assigned to the MM rate and is headed out to SC on Saturday after PIR on Friday.  I don't know how long he will have to wait for the rest of his class, but its been a long wait since he DEP's last October. Happy that boot camp is done and now to concentrate on the academics.
