What not to take into the drill hall or give to your sailor

This is a reminder that gifts, gift bags, large signs, banners, and flowers are NOT allowed inside the drill hall for graduation. Recruits are not allowed to bring anything back with them to their barracks so please refrain from trying to give them flowers. All they can do is sniff the flowers and then hand them right back to you as they cannot walk around in uniform holding flowers.

If they are staying in Great Lakes for "A" School, you may give them items such as cell phones, laptops, clothes, after they have checked into their new barracks on the main side of the base. If they are going out of state, you will need to meet them at the airport to hand them items.

Also keep in mind that all bags and purses are searched by security. If you are walking onto the base, your bags will be searched at the gate as well as in the visitors center. Vehicles are subject to search and all visitors will have their bags searched in the visitors center.
