Navydads Political Talk Rules and Guidelines

1. Whether Republican or Democrat we are all on the same team - The Navy's
2. Name calling or threats to any member because of their political stance will not be tolerated
3. Respect each others political views and debate them in a civil manner
4. Only a healthy debate will be allowed on this site
5. With the rules in place please feel free to join in on the debate

John and Luis have set a wonderful example of how we should debate things in a civil manner. I just want to be up front with everyone who participates in this discussion that I will not let this get out of hand. I want to warn everyone that this site is here to benefit us with our children's journey through the Navy not to slam each others political beliefs.

That being said I do understand that the next commander in chief will be relevant to us Navy parents. I encourage healthy debates when it comes to politics. It's what makes this country so great. We can have our own beliefs and we get to vote for whom we want in office. All I ask is for everyone to debate in a healthy manner not in a negative manner. Express your views and let others express theirs. I do not want this to be a negative response to this candidate or a negative response to that candidate. We all know that political talks can quickly become shouting matches and this is not the site for it.

Whichever candidate wins this election will be the one that we need to stand behind and support because this person will be our children's commander in chief. In the military it doesn't come down to whether you are a Republican or Democrat. In a time of war it comes down to protect your brothers in arms no matter what branch of military they are in or what their political, religious beliefs are. Navy, Marines, Airforce, Army and Coast Guard when it comes down to it will fight side by side to defend this great country's freedoms no matter where they come from.

Sincerely, Navydads Creator

Cora, she will be on a carrier, assigned to a squadron (not ship's company). She will have the opportunity to earn Aircrew Wings.

We have to try something, the current system is not working for you and me and it just may get worse.

This just happened to me, effective Jan 1, 2010 I now have a $75.00 deductable (one time) for each prescription plus an 87 % increase in co-pay on each prescription I currently have.

What do you suggest we do?

Good point, MarkM. As you might guess from previous posts, I'm somewhat sub-centric given my nephew's stationing (Did I mention I'm super proud of him). Sorry to forget that.

Mike, don't forget Seabees, SEAL/SWCC teams get shot at.

Hi Ctyankee,

I in no way ment to imply the $ 500,000 was not ligit. I just thought it was done very quietly and there is nothing wrong with that.

I am an Independent and have been for many years and it appears to me that if we want to get the attention of politicians that is the way to go. If more Dems and Rep change to Ind. it is my hope that they will listen to us especially for the next 2 o 3 election cycles. It was the Independents who elected Mr. Brown.

I thought about that, but that interpretation doesn't sound right. My nephew's boat is in the Atlantic Fleet and very unlikely to fire a weapon anytime soon, except in an exercise. They didn't spend six figures training him just to boot him out in 18 months (more family pride -- he did well enough in schools to join the real navy at E-5) There might be something else, though. Unless your sailor is an aviator, it's unlikely he or she will be shot at. Reallly, really unlikely.

@cora -- I'm not sure what it means, but I'd guess it's passing your basic qualifications. For my submariner nephew, this means getting his dolphins, something he managed in 1-2 months -- he was on to qualifying for different reactor room / engineering space watches by the time they returned. Of course reactor folk are the elite, if I may be permitted a bit of family pride!

I'm assuming the surface, carrier and amphibious communities have similar qualification processes.

I'm sure the $500,000 was legit, or as sure as you can be with any politician that is. Scott Brown is under no obligation to call up the media and announce his strategy, or even his policy positions. It's the media's obligation to dig.

By the way -- what conservatives call "main stream media" (MSM) or "state media" liberals call the "so called liberal media" (SCLM) or "corporate media". Of those 4, I think "corporate media" is the most accurate portrayal. Even PBS is officially the "Corporation for Public Broadcasting" and has corporate sponsors for its shows.

Cora, the warfare pins are earned by completing courses. If you look at the RDC's you will see a silver pin that looks like waves and swords. Officer's are gold.

Hi Bob,

What was the gist of the story? $500k doesn't just change hands and get mentioned on the news with nothing deeper to talk about. It was either completely legit and the 'state media' was hoping to garner spin points, or is was completely bogus and ... well they'd've made a big deal about that... so it must have been legit.
