Sorry I haven't been in here, battling sickness :(. Sore throat, sigh. . . how neat though Paul although it would of been cool if they both could of come home at the same time. Hang in there and enjoy your visit with your daughter!!

I remember hearing those words also and worrying as well....but things worked out. As you said Michele, he's grown now and must make his own way and succeed or fail on his own....a tough lesson for our children and we parents! My daughter is on her way home and should be back the first week in October and my son left last week for his deployment---one leaves and one returns...the cycle goes on!

How is everyone's child doing? I heard from my son Wed. evening, he sounded much better and said his roommate and him are on good terms now :). It is hard to hear my son say things aren't going good, makes me worry so much. I try to remember he is grown now and will have to manage it on his own and hopefully remember everything I have taught him or told him :). Let me know how you all are doing also!

I thought I’d forward this short note that I received from Eric as he deploys to the mid-East. I know that sometimes it seems like they will never grow up and that they will never start to use the brain God gave them for anything purposeful……as did I for a number of years. Then you receive something like this and you start to think that maybe things work out after all………….

Brings a tear to my eye………..

I leave tomorrow to assist in maritime operations. To do my job in assisting in aviation maintenance which will in the end help to put warheads on the foreheads of those who dare to upset the balance, to hurt the innocent and to those who we deem terrorists. As in the rich naval tradition since October 13th 1775 I sacrifice my time and being to put my life in the hands of my fellow shipmates who in turn puts those same trusts into mine. To cast off and set sail to cross the seas in something bigger than what it is we can understand. To help those who need it is what we do, although we may be the cold forged steel harvesters of death in the modern age, we supply hope and change to those who need it most. In these final moments I realize that everything ive done, sacrificed in this last year all amount to something now. It finally means something. What Im not sure but its reassuring to know that im not here in vain. I will dearly miss you all and cannot wait till my return next year. I look forward to seeing you all and telling my tales of other lands and the sea. Wish me fair winds and following seas as I look forward to my return home. Delete Comment

Welcome to the group Jon :) thanks for joining us! How is Jason doing? Is he getting close to the end of his A-school? How are you doing? Do you get to talk to your son much now? God Bless, Michele :)

I totally understand. . .even though I have 3 more children at home I still miss having that closeness with my son. It is like we confide in our children and get a unique closeness/friendship with them since they are the only ones there through everything. My son had upbeat letters except for one and it was only one sentence in the letter that wasn't upbeat. I know he did that for my benefit or I would of went up there before graduation and got on base to take care of business - if you know what I mean lol. Alyssa is going to make it and I think that might be what is making her doubt her decision. . . it is the unknown that we all question. I believe we are more informed of her next steps in bc than she is, they are probably on a need to know basis. You continue to be strong for her and she will be graduated before you know it :). God Bless Hun, Michele

She is going thru the doubts...whether this is for her...I have told her to keep her chin up...and that she can do this...I hate not talking to her......

Welcome Diane :). . .I felt a group for us single parents needed to be made. Many of our experiences are different due to going through it alone. We have to do a lot of self talk and working through feelings uniquely due to not having another to share our joys and frustrations with. I hope this group is a great help and more single parents join :). On that note, how is everything with your sailor (daughter right?). Talk soon, Michele :)
