Hey all, I'm another single parent of a sailor. My son graduated on March 20, and is still in Great Lakes waiting for an A-School opening. It's been hard being without my son for these first few months. I can't wait to see him again.

Yes Natalie that does make a difference. I know that there are several different rates of MM's and my son was only in Great Lakes for boot camp. He went to Goose Creek, SC right after PIR for A School, and now he is finishing up his Power School. He is planning on heading to New York for his final schooling which is Prototype, then hopefully to a real sub. Sorry I couldn't help you more. But good luck to you and your sailor.

Kelly, BECC is Basic Engineering Common Core and I was told by Hoppi aka Angie who is a qualified SDC plus the CCC at GL that all MM take this class since they are all considered engineers. It’s sort of a pre A school class. After that comes the MM schooling. Hoppi answers questions for the Group “Great Lakes A School Q&A” on N4M along with William. My son won’t be on a sub nor is he nuke (well anything is possible) but as on now he is a surface MM. Maybe that makes a difference?

Hello Natalie, yes my son is a MM in the Nuke Program so I am not sure what BECC is. The A School that my son was in was only 12 weeks but that is norm for nuke MM's. Tell me what a BECC is and maybe I can refer you to someone that can give you the answers.
