At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

No Richard, we are moving to Mississippi. Just the sates are so close out there. 14-16 for us to get up to Washington now so 9 hrs will keep mom happy. Also she's never been up the east coast.

Scott,  Sounds like you are leaving CA for GA.  GA gain, CA's loss.  Our son Navy son is also in GA.  Wishing you all well...!

Hope everyone had a good Memorial weekend. Our son didn't get to come home that week this year. I was able to get our oldest to come out and help us this year for part of it. I wish I would have forced them to get up early and go with "Dad" but to a vet come home on leave and get up early to come help place flags was great last year and his brother came out to help set up for Mass and then the VFW at the cemetery will be something to always remember.
Well our son will be getting shore duty in Kings bay Georgia and will be about 9 hours from us when we retire next year. Looking forward to it.

If you are in the area Saturday morning come on out & help place flags in honor of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

We love SD and usually stay just up the road in Encinitas or Carlsbad, if you want to be by the water, or inland in Santee or La Mesa.  All are a short drive to your destination.

In terms of saving money, rather than stay at a hotel, if you were planning to try and stay more that a weekend go to www.hug.com.  HUG (Homeowners User Group) is comprised of timeshare owners who cannot use their timeshare (for any number of reasons) and you can rent it from them.  We've done it several times for SD.  You can rent a timeshare for a week, stay in a lovely condo with pool, BBQ etc. for 30% to 50% what you'd pay in a hotel for three days (if you are offered to hear a presentation for a $100 gift certificate, I wouldn't, the management company is just trying to sell you someone timeshare they are trying to unload).

Good Luck...!

Rich

Anyone have recommendations on affordable/decent places to stay in San Diego. Peak summer season = hard on the wallet. Planning on driving down mid July and mid August.
Thanks.
