At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

San Pedro is also the home of The Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center. Port of Call for many popular cruise lines. The last time I've been in town was on a Royal Carribean cruise to Mexico a few years ago...

Hey guys I really appreciate the shared info/links to USS Iowa and SS Lane Victory in San Pedro! Both are on my bucket list now of places to visit hehe... I'm sure the City of San Pedro and the Port of Los Angeles are both excited about this :)

Many of you probably already know that one of the Victory Ships, the SS Lane Victory was also rescued from the Moth Ball Fleet, and is berthed in San Pedro as well.  For the past several years they have been doing "Victory at Sea" cruises in the summer, with a "mock Luftwaffe" air attack. It's pretty cool.  I understand the Lane Victory did a special cruise to escort the Iowa to it's new home in San Pedro.

I am going to take my son there in there in the next couple of weeks when he comes home for leave...can't wait!!! I've been on both the Missouri and the New Jersey when they were home-ported in Long Beach...I was stationed there and worked for SIMA and did repairs on both of them...can't wait to be back on board a battleship...they are truly awesome ships...:)

Cheri that's so awesome! And Scott we're praying for mom... I won't get to see my son in about a year from now as well unless orders change. God Bless You All and hang in there... Happy ID4 :)

Cheri, glad you were able to go and see your son's homecoming in Groton. My wife and I wanted to be able to go to see our son when he was at Groton, but it didn't work out. We did get to go up to Washington to see them last year. Although we didn't have all the grand kids come to my mom's it was the first time she had seen the youngest one. I’m glad that most were able to go up and see mom as she is 85 and we had just found out that she has lung cancer. I am praying for the best for her.

I had a great time with my son and his family. I also got a great surprise with my daughter and her family coming up to my mom’s for father’s day. It was a busy few weeks with family and friends. We got to go shooting at the range, went to Monterey and I did a lot of BBQ’ing!
