At MEPS in San Diego. He hasn't shared yet when he leaves for basic, his job will be Missile Technician. I work in the South Bay, live in the Inland Empire.

Thank you Stephen.  What a great gesture, I like the blue candle very much.  One day we'll need to meet and wear our hats proudly together.

I got to speak to my son last night.  They were supposed to begin their deployment, but it has been delayed. The ship has one stop to bring aboard the air wing, then off to ports unknown.  God's speed my son.  Mom and I are very proud, and await your safe return.

Cheri, hang in there. I wish all families could be closer to their sailors. We feel extremely lucky to have our son in San Diego but we also understand that there are many more families out there who are sacrificing a tremendous amount. I will keep you and your son in my prayers.

My son got his waiver for sub duty so he's just waiting for orders to nuclear A school in Charleston!  Was quite a roller coaster ride the last week or so with a very tough interview about his sub waiver making it look like it wasn't going to happen just last Friday.  But today he got hte approval.

After 2 1/2 months of being done with A School, my son has gotten his official orders to San Diego aboard LHD 4 USS Boxer. I'm so excited for him and us as we are only 2 hours from San Diego. He flys in on Sunday and hopefully we can see him shortly after that. His rate changed from EN to MM and he is a adjusting his goals accordingly. he still wants to try Special Ops at some point either way. He is SO happy to be getting out of the cold of Chicago and back to sunny and warm California. Of course he is dying to go buy his first car " so he can come home on the weekends" which is what he is telling me so I will help him buy it. I am more than proud to help him all I can. I hope all Proud Californians are as lucky as we are with their sailors being as close to home as possible.

Good to hear that Daniel!

Daniel, so glad to hear your son got his medical clearance.  What the folks at the THU say was certainly true for my son for C-School.  He finished A School at Great Lakes in the begining of December, and stayed at GL until his orders for C-School came through the following May!  I hope the orders come faster for your sailor. If your son can't get his preferred duty and earn his dolphins in the silent service, it would be cool if he and his friend ended up on the same carrier.  Keep us posted on his progress in getting to Charleston.

My son just got medically cleared for Nuke but is still at the Temp Holding Unit in Great Lakes waiting for clearance for sub duty.  He's looking forward to getting to A School but people at the THU say the orders can take a long time.  We also have a family friend who's trying to get into OCS for flying right now.  So all of them could end up on the same carrier (although our son is trying to get on subs).

That's terrific!.  We moved to the Woodland Area in 2004, and my 3 sons were already out of high school.  My youngest son scored very high on his ASVAB scores and wanted to be a nuke, but he was 26 when he enlisted, and the Navy had an age limit of 24.  His recruiter tried twice to get an age waiver, but no go.  However, a young man that grew up with my oldest son enlisted right after high school in 1999 and became a nuke.  I was a Scout Master for many years when my boys were growing up, and this young man was the first to make Eagle Scout while I was Scout Master.  He served for several years on the Ronald Reagan, and is now serving on the Carl Vinson. He's taking the Chief's exam again this year and I hope he makes it.

It would be something if your son gets assigned to the Nimitz after he finishes his schools.  Then our boys would be shipmates!
