Never Forget 9-11

As a former Marine and now a Captain in the fire department it sorrows my heart to see how quickly the U.S. has forgotten 9-11. Not just from the firefighter stand point but also the civilians who lost there lives and let us not forget the brave souls on board flight 93 who gave there lives to stop what surely would have been a devestating attack on the White House. As I go out and run these calls our walk around town or even have a discussion with my fellow Honor Guard members I see not…

Learning about NACCS and our son's progress

Our son is settling into a routine as he begins preparation for NACCS in Pensacola. There seems to be consistent PT and inspections and occasional duty and watch. But one of the things that surprised me is the amount of freedom he seems to be enjoying as he Phases Up and awaits Class Up. For example I was surprised to learn that he was permitted to have his cell phone with him. It's great to be able to communicate with him on a regular basis, but I was surprised that he had that… Continue

family "re-entry" challenging

We left Great Lakes with puffed chests, full of pride, emotionally spent and anxious about what the future holds for our son. His mother, particularly, had a tough time as we began our drive home. She cried with pride and also at the realization that this marks the true passage into adulthood for him. He's making his own decisions, carving his own path and snipping the apron strings, once and for all. Tough for many mothers to deal with. She made a comment that she… Continue

Hoping We'll Make Our Son's PIR

Please pray for us, we're worried that we might not be able to make it to our son's PIR. Tim has a PIR date of September 10th. Well, my wife had to leave her job due to some health issues and we just had to have a car repaired. So, the budget is getting really, really tight. I know this is a very important date for Tim and don't want to miss it if at all possible to go.

A welcome phone call

My Son's name is James and he is currently at boot-camp on day 13 in Division 946. He is scheduled to graduate on Oct 1st. We just received a phone call and was so happy to here he is doing much better than last week. His time there is still being referred to as a "living hell", but I'm sensing hope in his tone as I believe he is starting to get it. He has mentioned that his bunk-mate name is Zachery from Texas who is becoming a Chaplin...An answer to our prayers that he would find fellowship… Continue

proud moment

Prior to observing PIR in person, one can only imagine what it's like to watch their son march past in dress whites...a US Sailor...but, in fact - what we imagined is but a fraction of reality. One of the proudest moments in our lives. Incredibly proud of our son, Lynch.

finally the long awaited phone call home.

Our son Phil called us late Friday afternoon to tell us he is a sailor now. Battle stations are over and all the fears of those horrid tales of what to expect at Battle Stations are a thing of the past. He enjoyed it and is very proud of his division for the great job that was done. ( Division 274) It was so good to talk to him on the phone and not be so worried about the time allotment. This has been the longest seven weeks we have spent. One more to go and we can see him, if only for a…
