Trying to decide which rating sticker to add next at liferdog.com, any suggestions?

I'm a former Engineman, I took up this project with the intention of offering all of the enlisted ratings. I need input as to which ratings are in the most demand so that I can do this efficently.

laundry

I'm an old Sailor of the Vietnam era. In boot camp they gave us soap and scrub brush, how do the recruits do their laundry these days?

"A" School Graduation

Well, my son finally graduates from "A' school on April 9th, 2010. We are so proud. He will be stationed at San Diego, CA. He will be on the USS Sampson as a Operation Specialist. He is so excited! He did very well in "A" school, and got everything he requested. Does anyone out there have any idea when graduates get to come home? He has to report to post by May 29th. We really miss him................ Hard work really pays off my son......your adventure begins.......

Gentlemen,

Well we're running another son through the mill starting 3/24/2010. His name is Jared and he is singed up for the spec ops program.

I'm curious if anyone else has a son or daughter starting B/C during the week of 3/24/10.

We have not been assigned a ship yet but I'm sure we'll get news of that within a week or two.

I have another Son that has been in for a year and a half now. He is stationed in washington state.

So we are familiar with the routeen but it's… Continue

Pride: the Rambling

Forgive me, I know this is going to go in a million directions. That's okay, I'm human and I can do that. After all, this is really meant for my dad first and everyone else a distant second.

People look at me funny, when I sing cadence as loud as I can. The SDCs and instructors seem the only people who appreciate a gal in the front with tennies, belting it out as she tries to march along. Me? I do it as a release, for when else do we get to sound off like that? Well, during morning… Continue

I love my Country but I hate the Government

The constitution says "We the people" not "I the king and my stupid minions" my representative and government are not representing what we want to see happen, ITS TIME TO RECALL THE WHOLE DAMN GOVERNMENT AND START OVER, or they can have the same healthcare and 401K's we do.I pledge not to vote for any candidates that supported socialized healthcare.

I promise to vote against any one supporting the health care plan!

A Virtual Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall

I ran across a very interesting website that I thought I would share....it is a virtual Vietnam Veterans memorial wall.....one of the pages lists those that gave their lives by state....click a state name and you can eventually get to a list of medals and often a bio. This was a monumental amount of work and it is a reminder that many gave their lives in a far away land with a funny name.......

Iwo Jima

My sailor (Kevin) serving aboard the USS Tortuga had the rare privilege of visiting Iwo Jima as part of the 65th Anniversary celebration on February 25th. While he wasn't able to attend the ceremony (he was pulling road guard duty) he did get to see a lot of sights and catch a glimpse of some of the dignitaries in attendance including the Secretary of the Navy.

What really struck me was when he told me about this was his encounter with a WWII vet of the Battle of Iwo Jima. My…

And now for something less than touching...

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1053078-overview

It was getting to the point where I had to admit my roommate had something when she said it stunk in here. I mean, I was admitting to a little foot fungus, but nothing Lotrimin couldn't cure, right? Riiight?

Well, wrong. I went to sick call this morning, and ended up with a diagnosis of Pitted Keratolysis. That is, a nasty little bacterium eating the… Continue

A Mother's Poem

I kissed and hugged him and watched him walk away

He graduated Boot Camp and is now on his way

He stood tall and proud as he walked and waved

I couldn’t be happier of the road he has paved

The weekend was short how I wished for more days

Just in awe of his presence and new Navy ways

His focus and maturity came in quick and nine weeks

I know he will find whatever he seeks

I am back to waiting for calls and the mail

Never knowing when the time comes… Continue

GM3 Borgstedt

My son GM3 Clifford Borgstedt in less than 28 months of service received the NAM Medal DEC 2009 aboard the LSD 41 from the Commandant of the Amphibious Fleet.

Won't You Be Mine?

It was fully my intention to email Dad and ask him to be my Valentine because there was no way I'd get a valentine of my own, right? I've been on base less than a week, and I'm not that kind of gal to be noticed and all that jazz. No, no way I'd have a valentine.

I woke up this morning (early, for duty section turnover), opened the door to head to the head. There was shit on the ground. Not literal shit. Colorful...kiddy valentines. Happy Bunny, Hello Kitty, Disney…

Saturday duty day at A School

The alarm clock went off at 6:45, the latest I'd woken up since boot camp began. I didn't need to be down in the lounge for muster until 8, but I needed to chow before then (galley only, since other food places are not authorized when on duty). They called sweepers for Duty Section 3, then turned over to 4, and I'm free for on-ship liberty until an event such as posting for midday chow or my watch...or the dress blue inspection Duty Section 4 is holding to ensure no one begs off watch due to…
