Ray, It was my second visit to Norfolk, Stayed at the Hyatt Place in Chesapeak, my sailor is married and lives in Chesapeake so it was nice for both of us .... Hotel was great, very large rooom with fridge, couch, Big TV on wall mount that you could swing if you were sitting or to the other direction if you were in bed, reasonabley priced also, lots of restaurants in the area, I can reccomend thehotel and the area .... unless your interested in the VA Beach area ... the next time the wife and me may try the beach after the season is over, Sept or Oct. Jon has hard orders to stay in Norfolk that will take him to with only 8 months left of his Hitch, so I doubt they will transfer him. He is currently working in the Armory, he is an MA3 and will take the test for MA2 the next test period in Sept. '12. Got my fingers crossed for that one. By the way congrads on they Yankee performace this year so far. Watch the Nationals Kid by the name of Bryce Harper, a great hustling ball player perfomiong very well so far at age 19.
My wife and me are heading to Norfolk on Wed. to visit our sailor for several days, looking forward to having a great time

Hey Ray....Thanks for the reply....Just looking for others with family members in the MA title....My son still has a few weeks remaining in San Antonio
Ray , Brian is going through battlestations as I post this comment. We are very anxous to hear his voice again and of course to be there to see him graduate. It will only be for a short time as he is flying out Saturday for his A school , but my wife is trying to figure out how to get the most of it.
My son brian also has a tatoo, which he has had for years. It is the same type of tat that pamela anderson has the barbed wire on her arm. I thought about getting one like it to show support for my son but I am sure that my wife would have been highly pissed off for doing so!
Your son looks like he is really enjoying himself. Brian has a degree in IT and was looking to get into communications, but there were no openings so he took the first opportunity available. He is going to be an RP which sounds like a very good begining for him.
I am sure Brian is very busy now, as he should be halfway through his bootcamp. In his letter he metioned how everyone trys to help each other out and the team concept which helps to motivate each other.
We will see him graduate on April 8th. and of course looking forward to that day. We will only have him graduation day as he leaves early the next day for A school. He will have 4-5 weeks of A school and then he will be joining the Marines for 4 weeks of mini bootcamp. I know this will be an experience he will not forget, bootcamp-A school- bootcamp gain , with the marines!
Ray you have to be very proud. Great looking kid reminds me of my son Brian who is going to graduate the eighth of april. I can remember when I had to make shoes look that shiny, but that was a long time ago. Best wishes to you and your family
Ray, sorry for the delay .. Jon is part of the base security, sometimes gate duty , car patrol all having to with with base ... i understand there is a "waterfront " crew that are concerned with rhe ships n port area ... Jon is currently on lilimted duty, has a pinched nerve and going to therapy. he is on the very early shift at present .. has to get up at 2:am to go to work ... i'll place a call to see what else i can find out.
Ray, your right about "it is what Chris wants" , a lot of changes and challenges take place in the military. I am sure he will make good choices and make you very proud of him, so hang on for a thrilling ride. My very best to you
Ray, I was in the navy from 1950 to 1954, AD was my rate ... aircraft mechanic, I loved it ... would have made it a career , but to many guys from W-11 stayed in and the advancement was going to be doubtful, after passing the test for the next grade twice and not getting rated I decided to get out .
hi Ray, my Sailor (grandson) is currently stationed at Naval Station Norfolk, his name is Jon Malone. As I understand it there are more thn one Assignments for MA's on the Base. Jon in on the land assigment, gate duty, car patrols base security etc. I am sure Jon would be happy to help Chris with adusting to his new duty station. Best of luck to Chris, and his Mom and Dad.
