Hi John!
We have a great PIR 2/18/11 group over at NavyforMoms.com and there are six or seven of us trading news on a sub-group in that group called "Ship04 Div805." Lots of good stuff there if you're up for a little reading! I am in Central FL and my son is in line to be a Diver.
As far as I can tell from the letters I've gotten and the posts from other 4-805 moms, they did Hell Week last week and are destined for the gas chamber this week. Blech!!
How about you and yours?

One little tip for N4Ms (Navy for Moms):
1. Don't use your real name when you sign up. Particularly when your recruit is designated as SpecialOps, people get edgy about real names being up there -- the COs sometimes lurk on our site and
use what they find there against your recruit. So we try to be covert without going overboard (you'll excuse the puns!).
Having said that, Read On! There's a ton of info there.
As for 4-805, here's what I know about PIR and the grad-n-go thing:
1. There are other guys in our division who are not divers and so most of them are heading somewhere else, not staying at GL for "A" School.
2. Divers will stay at GL for "Diver Prep" for five or six weeks before heading down to Panama City for their "A" School.
3. Not everyone makes the cut through Diver Prep! Frustrating, I know! I am told that only about 50% of the Diver Prep starters make it all the way through and get to go to Panama City. Once in Panama City, the statistic is that 50% of those guys make it all the way through and gain the job title! The numbers are against our guys!!
4. If they DON'T make it through Diver Prep, they'll sit with a counselor (there's a name for that person, but I can't remember it right now) and decide on a new job -- determined by interest, but mostly by what's available at the time. And then they'll be shipped to the school for the new job.
5. If they MAKE IT (hooray!!) through Diver Prep, then they head to Panama City for "A" school and the process is repeated (sitting with a counselor if they don't make the cut there).
6. I AM TOLD by my recruit, that he (and presumably the other diver candidates in his division) is scheduled to move his stuff over across the street--out of the RTC but still on the GL Base--to Diver Prep on 2/23. That means he's not grad-n-go. There is a possibility that he'll be switched to grad-n-go, but even if he is, he'll have the long weekend for liberty (they have 2/21 off for the holiday), and he'll just have to spend a few hours moving his stuff over across the street while we wait on Friday or Saturday.
WHEW!! I've also been told that their division has been "sponsored" by a dive company out the the Northwest. Can't remember the name of the company (my husband has it jotted down in his iPhone, but not near him right now). This is somewhat rare and prestigious opportunity for them to be recognized, get treats from the sponsor, etc. Cool, right?
How's that for a little info?! LOL!! Ask away . . if I have any answers, I'll happily share! :D
Exxie, Great to hear from you, I will check N4Ms and see whats there. We are from the Syracuse, NY area, my son is also in line to be a diver. In his last letter he wasn't sure if he would be grad and go or not, and not sure about liberty after PIR. We are trying to confirm travel plans but have little info. Do you know anymore?
Thanks,
John
