We got our box and letter today and our son Peyton is also in Div 945 Ship 2

Got Zach's letter yesterday, box today, ship 02 div 945. heard from recent grads that 945 is some sort of "HONOR" division. anybody else heard this?

From what I hear, its called a "performance" division (I asked the same thing of the "Boot Camp" group.

Something about band, chorus, colors...unfortunately I wasn't able to confirm which one yet though.

 

Our son is also Tyler and is from Connecticut...where are you guys from?

Zach is my son. we are from Ohio. Zach has been in NJROTC in high school since he was a freshman. Our cadets pulled 8th in the country last year at nationals. i would be willing to bet there is color guard involved

Peyton is my son and we are from just outside Lubbock Texas,and he also did 4 years of NJROTC.

The 900 Div is also known as the "Performance Division" and it is made up of kids who have been in band and JROTC and have marching abilities. They will receive extra training in marching (in addition to their regular training) and will be used for color guards and armed escort. They may get to leave boot camp to march in parades and ceremonies. They will also march in the two PIRs before graduation on the 23rd which I am told that they will lead.

From what I have read they will not be able to join us right after PIR as they will have to stow all of their equipment before they can join us.

That makes sense....  We don't have a NJROTC program here but Tyler did do marching band for a bit so he does have the additional marching experience.

 

I hope we can continue to talk as we hear more from our boys.  I am anxious to hear how your boys are doing and compare "notes"

Sounds like a plan to me. I have a feeling Zach's girlfriend will hear from him more than I will. but I will pass on anything I hear.

I do know from a trip up there with NJROTC last year, it is a whole different world from when I was there in 82.

Hey all...just got a call from Tyler...  Sounds like the group is doing ok.  Just wanted to share... he said he got all our letters yesterday and will be mailing his back in the next day or so...

Congrats on hearing from Tyler. Have not heard from Peyton yet.

Hey Steve...thanks...it was totally unexpected for sure !  Apparently he needed additional names and addresses for his security clearance as a CTT.  He sounded in good spirits (all things considered)

We are definitely going to PIR...Springhill is one of the ones I wanted to check out...were they reasonable ?

I asked for the PIR discount and got the room for $79 a night. They also have shuttle so will not have to drive and wait in line to get on base.
