Navy Dads

My son passed his PST with close to optimum scores on every event this past week and is feeling very good about the hard work he has put in over the past couple of months.

However, he is getting some conflicting direction from his DEP recruiter and the Officer that administered the PST that is dampening his spirit.  First, I wanted to say I have done some independent research on various forums and websites and think I have most of the pieces, but I want to see if any other "Navy Dads" can provide me with some clarity and direction to bring it all together so that I can it pass along.

Can anyone give me the next steps in the process that will result in him receiving his contract and being placed into the "draft"?

Specifically, is the CSORT administered as the next step; or does he wait for the next draft to occur later this month, get his contract, and then do the CSORT?

Then as a follow-up...if his DEP recruiter is mis-informed, how does he get back on course?  He does not want to challenge his superior but he is also very motivated towards achieving his goal of become a SEAL.

Thanks in advance for any guidance...PapaUrsa

Papa,

Is your son working with a SEAL Mentor?

Not at this point, the closest thing is the Officer who administered the test who is now trying to help.  I have tried to stay at arms-length on how he is approaching his journey (trying to ween myself) since he will be making life and death decisions very soon!

Is there a resource I can point him to on how to get a Mentor?

Papa -

I am by no means an expert on this, but I considered the mentor program a "need" to even consider the next steps.  My son spent over a year attending those sessions and even with that I believe about 70% of his "training buddies" didn't make it through advanced training.  A whole bunch were weeded out during the mentor program.   This group was made up of SEAL, SWCC, and EOD candidates.

My suggestion would be get on the phone with the recruiter (I would) - Someone help me here, but I thought the mentor program was mentioned as mandatory on the SEAL/SWCC website??

You may have to get more involved than you thought!

Someone with more knowledge than me will be a better resource.  Good Luck!

Papa,

Follow this link and select your geographic region, it should then list a SEAL Mentor for your area...

http://www.sealswcc.com/navy-seals-find-mentor.aspx

If you have question regarding SEALs you can also call the Motivator's Directorate in Coronado, CA at 1-888-USN-SEAL. They are there Monday to Friday from 0600 to 1600 PT. Someone in the office should be able to answer your questions.

Thank you all for the advice!  I am having trouble accessing the link you provided JG, maybe it's the firewall here at my work...will try later from home :)

Update...he now took his CSORT yesterday (that's another story unto itself) and it appears that he is in for the next draft (this week).

I will continue to try to get him hooked up with a Mentor.

Thanks again!   PapaUrsa (PU) lol
