Navy Dads

Hi Dads.., new poster, so I apologize if I should have instead started this discussion in the Bootcamp grp. I'm sure the mods will point me in the right direction if so.

My son reported to RTC, Great Lakes last night with NSW contract in-hand. Before leaving, he mentioned that the NSW are grouped separately from the Big Navy while in boot camp. This site has a number of great resources regarding what to expect during boot camp. Does anyone have any further information about how the NSW breakout (for lack of a better term) is conducted and how it differs?

Thank you for posting back;
Steve

KC,

Yes they will.  Actually, in most cases or at least in our son's case it was several days.

Hey JG, correct me if I'm wrong, but immediately after PIR and a brief visit with family (one hour?), your new sailor needs to grad-n-go and report to his new "ship" (this can take 5-7 hours?). Then, he/she is granted liberty for the weekend, but they still need to report back very evening by 9 or 10pm ~ their curfew. It's my understanding that overnight liberties are not being granted right now.

RC,

All of what you stated may in fact be true now.  S went thru Basic & Pre-Buds roughly 6570 days ago and has since graduated w 286.  Our experience was - he had weekend liberty and had to return Sunday evening.

It could be associated with whether or not they win Captains Cup if they receive weekend liberty, and the fact that Pre-Buds is literally across the road. Again, that is how it played out for us - and like many things in the course of their chosen career path - subject to change in the proverbial blink of an eye.

Hope that helps.  Good luck to your son in his chosen path.
