SR son off to Naval RTC, Great Lakes, IL., April 17th 2012. question?

Good morning fellow Navy dads....
SR son is off to Naval RTC, Great Lakes, IL., April 17th 2012. Question?
At this time I haven't gotten an initial phone call from my son yet.
Why haven't I gotten a phone call yet? He left on a flight to Chicago yesterday afternoon after he got sworn in at MEPS. Is this an usual thing from the Navy?

Rick,

Usually you'll receive a quick 30 second phone call late that night when your son arrives at RTC. I've heard of people not getting this call though because of different reasons. I would start by contacting his recruiter to make sure he arrived safely which I'm sure he did. If you do not receive a call today then you should receive the kid in a box around day three or four. Let me know what you find out. I have seen this happen more than once, not that it's a common thing but does happen occasionally.

Thank You E.G. for your reply.

I contacted his recruiter earlier today and the recruiter has stated that they are not able to know if he has arrived to RTC. He only told me is that as the saying goes "no news is good news". I will be on the lookout for the kid in a box.

Thank you Don for your reply.

It gives me a calm to know that I can turn to this NavyDad group. I appreciate it very much that you and E.G. have taken the time to reply to me. I have more info on what my SR son will be confronting while he is at RTC. I sure will take the time to send those letters out to him. Yea I hear ya on the lack of communication part. I am looking forward in receiving his first letter. Thank you. Likewise, Good luck and all the best to your SR daughter on her continued training and best wishes to her future.

everyone needs to remember that No News is Good News.  Your sailors are fine otherwise you have heard something.  You need to get used to being out of communication....at sea it can be several weeks with no contact...this is all part of the learning process.  The Navy needs to break all the recurits down to have them forget about being homesick....no communicaiton is part of that....

Good Evening fellow Navy dads....

I have good news. I received my SR son initial arrival phone call to boot camp!

I would like to give my deepest thanks to all of you that took the time to give me very valuable information regarding my question. I would like to wish all the best and Godspeed to all the SR sons and daughters who are currently going through boot camp training. And I also would like to wish all the best and Godspeed to all the Navy Sailor sons and daughters who are serving this Great Country domestic and abroad.

Rick,

I'm glad to hear you got your call. Now, don't expect the next one until week three or four. Like Paul said, it is now time to break them down and disconnect them from the outside world. He is now on his way to being a United States Sailor. HooYah!

I wish him the best!

When I went to bootcamp it was multiple weeks in before we got to make our first phone call.

Hi E.G. Thank you for your appreciated reply! All the best your family and you!

Hi Jeremy, Thank you for your appreciated reply! I am happy that my SR was given a chance to make his initial 30sec. phone call.

Rick,  thought I would pass this on to you. I dont know if you go on facebook but there is facebook page run by U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command. They post up new pics daily and while it is a slim chance you may just see your sr son.  We did get lucky and caught a glimpse of ours a week ago. They posted some today for recruits from 4-17 so if you get a chance take a look.

Hi Paul! Thank you for your appreciated reply! Yea you are absolutely right about No News is Good News.

Thank you for all your info. All the best your family and you!
