Just got my son's letter from his recruiter and got his address! We now have left the great unknown and my poor wife can stop sniffling. I hope to get to meet the father's of all his shipmates while they pursue their dreams and successfully graduate as Sailors.
They all make us so proud!

So our SR's should have been able to write their first letters yesterday (Sunday, May 20) during holiday routine. For our son that PIR'd on May 11, the first letter took six days to get to us. After that, we were getting them in about four days. (we live in San Antonio).
We just today got our first letter from our son (5-23-12) It sounds like he is doing well, a little tired, and a whole lot worn out I think. It was good to hear from him.
Got our second letter today! Sounds like Ship 09 Div 205 is doing great! Note for reference: Don't just nod to that 'recruit' in PT gear. It could be a lieutenant!
We are still waiting for a second letter. I am glad to hear the Div is doing good. Thanks!

Just got our first phone call! He sounds good, but like he has the 'crud'. He says they are doing well, but down to 69 from 80 recruits.
about everyone gets the RTC "crud"....all those folks together from all over the country and things spread pretty fast!!!!
From Wiki: a guidon is a military standard that company or platoon-sized elements carry to signify their unit designation and corps affiliation or the title of the individual who carries it. Navy ships and squadrons may display a unit guidon while parading ashore. It measures 201⁄8 by 273⁄4 inches (51 × 70 cm) with a 10 inches (25 cm) swallowtail, is blue with white text, and depicts a fouled anchor within a diamond (identical to the insignia of the Naval Infantry Flag). Prior to World War II, a red flag was used for naval artillery units. In addition, companies of the Brigade of Midshipmen attending the United States Naval Academy utilize a gold guidon with blue numerals
