Our son isn't, but when is the PIR? Ours is Aug 3rd.

Div 267 PIR is going to be AUG 24th.

Awesome. Much success to all of our recruits. Made hotel reservations; renting a car for the drive up north to Glakes. Sad thing is though, most of us might only get to spend a few hours with our kids and from what I understand if your recruit has "A" school at Glakes they may get more time off than that. Our son ships out to CT for BESS the following morning.

John,

That is pretty normal for the young Sailors, graduate on Friday and fly out to various points in the country for "A" school the following morning.  Remember, they will have a brand new group ready to go into those beds the very next day!

My son, Kevin, is in this Division.

Joe,

Funny, my sons' name is Kevin as well!  They are on 1-3 day today!

PIR will be 8/24!

We plan to make travel arrangements this week for the PIR. Unclear when he will ship out to A school, so don't want to overstay. Suspect we will get specifics next few weeks or so. We are traveling from NJ. For sure, it's been hot there.

Joe,

Those recruits that are just moving across the street for "A" school will have to check in with their school house on Friday after graduation but most will get the weekend off (till 9pm or so) on Saturday and Sunday.  Do you know where Kevin is going to school?  What job field he is going into?  But he should write a letter soon to let you know what his specific plan will be.  Boot camp is divided into weeks and days, 7 full weeks of training.  Our kids are on their first week, day three. Sundays/holidays don't count.  So Monday morning (7/9) will be their 1-4 day.  They have six days a week of training, so Tuesday will be 1-5 day (A BIG DAY BTW) and Wednesday will be 1-6 day, Thursday will begin their second week, 2-1 thru 2-6.  The training schedule is very regimented and certain things have to happen on certain training days.  If it's anything like when I went to boot camp a very long time ago, 1-5 day is a big inspection that basically everyone fails, gets yelled at, does a few hundred pushups and then continue on.  The first few weeks are designed that way, have to break them down to bring them back up as a team.  As I recall, everyone feels like they are on the verge of failing at life the first couple weeks, then it starts to get better.  Our sons will actually PIR on their 8-2 day.  But for essential purposes boot camp (training days) are over on 7-6 day.  The day before PIR will be spent practicing for PIR.

Patrick, thanks for the information. My son is slated for submarine school, Groton, CT.

My son is also headed to Groton for submarine school. His PIR is on Aug 17th though. He is on

Ship 03 Div 256. We figure that we will be able to see him for a few hours friday night after PIR. Then

he will probably fly out on Saturday morning. I'm glad I read the info above, sounds like we should be able to get past security and see him off to CT. We live in PA and are renting car to drive out and already have rooms reserved. He is actually only going to be about 5 hours from us once he reports to CT. Rental car is alot cheaper then two round trip tickets to our local airport. Just have to put in the ass time.

Hope he gets a bit more time. We plan to stay through Sunday. Booked at the Ramada. Good rate. Reviews mixed though. Groton only 2 1/2 hours north from us.

if they do not go to A-School in Great Lakes they will fly out Saturday.....
