If there are any members out there whose son or daughter graduated on the day before Thanksgiving in past years and were attending "A" school in Pensacola or someplace other than Great Lakes, please let me know if they shipped out on T-day or Friday after T-day. My son's latest letter asked us if we could do something on the holiday and although I don't think he knows when he'll ship out, I want to be prepared if he doesn't ship out on T-day.
Thanks in advance.

this is from RTC:
Recruits attending "A" school in Great Lakes will depart on 21 Nov and report to their new command. Following normal check-in procedures, they will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
Recruits attending "A" school outside of Great Lakes will depart RTC 23 Nov. They will be authorized liberty Wednesday, 21 Nov and Thursday, 22 Nov.
Hi John,
My son also graduates the day before Thanksgiving (11-21). He is in Ship 13 Div 015. His "A" school is in Connecticut. He said he had weekend liberty but did not mention when he ships out. I'm not sure if he knows either. Sounds like we are in the same boat. I am hoping his next letter gives me some more information.
Looks like our sons are in the same group - mine is also in Ship 13 Div 015. FYI - I am pretty sure he will have liberty on Weds 11/21 & Thur. 11/22 but I don't know whether he has to report back on Wed. evening. I'm going to post another question to see if I get any responses. Good luck to your son - is he going to Groton?

Gregg - my son is headed to Pensacola for A school. Rated AV - Electrical, Electronic and Computer Systems Technician. He was offered submarine duty but at 6' 4", he didn't want to take a chance on becoming a hunchback. I spoke to him this evening - he got a call due to the hurricane [we're in NY but not near the shoreline] and he definitely has to be back on the base on Wed. evening. In fact, he told me that he may end up shipping out on Thur. at 2 a.m. Let's see if we can ID each other at P.I.R. without any hints.

Hello again,
Yes my son is going to Groton for his A School. He is rated SECF Submarine Electronics Computer Field. He did write that there was one other submariner in his division, I guess that is your son. I see that there is a submarine school group on this site which I will be joining. Good luck to your son also! I am not sure if they have to spend Wednesday night on base. It would be great if our son could stay with us. We are flying in from Florida. If I hear anything I will post it. Take care, I am sure will will speak again.
Gregg
