My son will be going from A school at the end of March .His duty station is
West and we live East. Can anyone tell me how the transportation works .He will be coming home for about two weeks and then going to his duty station in the West . When i was in the Air Force we would fly stand by . Do airlines still do that for military ? Will he have to pay for the difference between his A school in Texas and his duty station if he comes back to the east coast. Any input would be good thanks

Hi Wayne,
My daughter went from A school at GL to Japan for her first duty assignment. She got to fly home, and then to Japan on the Navy. When she had leave this past Christmas, it we all on her. Hope this helps and your son should clarify with command.
After A-School, the navy paid for my son the fly home for the two weeks off before the duty station. My son, Drove his vehicle from our home to Naval Station San Diego. He only got one plane ticket, so he used it to fly home from A-School.
Hello Wayne, what did you find out about coming home? My son is graduating from Pensacola on May 10th and will be going to San Diego for his first duty. He was told, that for $35 the Navy will modify his ticket so he can come home for leave (two weeks) before goin on to San Diego. We have not confired this, but that is what "someone" told him. This person also told he he MUST be on a flight out of Pesacola on the day of graduation. That sounds a little fishy to me. What was your don's experience?
Hello & Thanks Everyone, My son has completed his A school at Groton. He flew home for two weeks and then to Bangor. There he will attend C school for 80 days before going to his boat. He and his C dad has met and toured the base. We live in Las Vegas which is two and half hours flying time; this is one graceful family.
