Down to the last week with my son. He leaves on Oct 1 for boot camp. So very proud and excited for him to start his amazing journey like I did 28 years ago. Anyone else have a sailor with a bootcamp start date Oct 1, I would love to get a group together so we are in the same boat (a little humor to break the stress).

Enjoy your last week with him. My son is going on Week 2 and Man I didn't realize this was going to this hard. But 18 years of him there every day and now I haven't seen or heard from him going on two weeks so far is very hard.
We delt with this same sort of issue last year when he went to Maritime college boot camp for a couple of weeks. Me and my wife had a little seperation sadness but this is a whole new ballgame. I remember when i went to boot camp 28 years ago how much i missed my family and how much i realized what i had at home. That may be one of the best parts of this journey is that they grow up and realize family even more than they did before. the 8 weeks will fly by, he'll do great.
My son went to MEPS on 9/30 and RTC on October 1st. I'm with you Terry, I sure wish there was a way to watch the action!
Yes My son left on the 1st as well. That was his mom birth day-ME.
He called upon arrival to Great Lakes Base and told me that he will be calling me in 2 weeks and that the Navy will be sending me a package with graduation information and other things. He was like reading a script and I was so emotional that I grabbed of what he said what I could. I just hope to hear from him soon. I'm use to be with him all the time and I miss him way too much, but I know he is doing a great thing. I'm very proud of him!!!
Bittersweet!
It IS a scritped phone call..they only have about 15 seconds to convey exactly what they are told to....
What Date did your son left? My son left Wednesday the 1st of October.
I keep telling my son and his sister that I am everything I am because they Loved Me!!! They are my inspiration, my babies, and ones of the reasons to be.
:-) that's right!!! bittersweet!!!
Terry,
My Son left on the 1st as well. That was my birthday and the only think I wanted to know about was my son. I told people not to call me or congratulate me for my birthday because that day was not about me anymore, but about my Son becoming a great Navy Soldier.
Jorge — my son shipped out last Thursday, Oct. 2. My firstborn too. I really appreciated what you wrote and how you feel! I received his letter with his mailing address and graduation date and, like you, was overjoyed to see that terrible handwriting :)
Hang in there, man. Our young men are the finest there are!
