Navy Dads

My son ships Saturday for OCS, with a grad date of Feb 27. I'd like to make hotel reservations for my wife and I now. When do I need to be there? I know the official ceremony is Friday, but I've heard/read there is something happening Wed evening? Also, what happens to the grads after the ceremonly Friday? Is that it, they're done and can go? I realize he'll have orders for his first PCS to his duty station, but are there any more OCS activities after the Friday grad ceremony?

Thanks all.

Hi Todd,

My daughter just graduated on Oct 10 from OCS in Newport.  On the Thursday before graduation you could go watch a training session in the afternoon and in the evening they had a cocktail party called "Hi Mom".  It is not just for mom's but the whole family can go.  It's at the Officers Club.  There is a restaurant there where we had a bite to eat before the ceremony and then we went into a big hall with all the graduates and their commanding/training officers.  there were hors d'oeuvres, drinks and some awards and speeches.  That was nice.  Then the next morning was graduation.  My daughter's was outside on the football field but I'm sure your son's will be indoors.  That was really nice.  Once they graduate they are free to go once they have all their equipment and uniforms etc. out of their dorm.

Todd,

Our son in week 1 of OCS and we were wondering how you knew about the graduation date before he even started.  My wife has created a facebook group for NAVY OCS Class o1-17 and many parents have asked this question.

Thank you,

Cris
