Navy Dads

My son shipped Tuesday December 2, I have a basic understanding of procedures having had a son in the Army and one in the Marines.  My son, as I understand will, after PIR, go to A school then to Submarine school.

Question?

At what point, if any, will he be allowed to have a lap top or tablet?

Thank you.  Mike, dad of 9.

he should be allowed a laptop right away, but best to hear what his instructions are ...........

After PIR when off base at RTC....Parents often give these items at the airport.

Tom is correct- if you give him anything electronic after PIR it has to be at the airport

Thank you very much, I searched and frustrated myself trying to find an answer.  You guys and Navy Dads are Great.

Every Command operates differently and your Sailor will know exactly what he can and can't bring but yes the norm that we've experienced is the electronics hand off at the Airport after BC. Hopefully the Command he ends up with has good WIFI for cheap or free. A MIFI is also a good option to pair with his laptop and tablet so he'll have portable web access anytime...

Good reminder Gary- many of the A-schools have poor WIFI coverage...just be prepared and be flexible....

Well I just thought if his phone is already tethering or the tablet has 4G LTE hopefully no need to worry about crappy WIFI just data usage ...

Gary is the IT expert....he's the one to listen to!!!!!

Nah... I just have to deal with this stuff day in and day out LOL
