Navy Dads

Glad to see discussions about TG 11 and PIR for 23 Jan 2015.    I am heading up on the 22nd and looking forward to seeing how my son has changed.    I am planning on leaving the evening of the 23rd.   Does anyone have any idea what part of the day after graduation will see the new sailors heading to their A schools (morning, afternoon or evening)?   I have asked my son when he is scheduled to leave but have not gotten the response letter yet.   I am wondering if I am leaving too soon (6pm on 23rd) or if I should stay until sometime on the 24th.

Thank you for any thoughts/input.

I am heading up on the 19 and staying till the 25.  It depends on if you want to see your son off at airport for A school.  That is if he is going somewhere or staying in GL, of course.  I have only received 2 letters other than the information letter and all he has wrote was what they have done.  He has his mom and GF he has written to also in the limited time.

I sometimes think even the Navy does not know a schedule for when they will be flying out.  My son graduated December 5th and had to head to O'Hare around midnight for his flight to Pensacola.  At first my son had heard he had a 2:30 flight but later on realized his flight did not leave until the following afternoon.  So it ended up being a 14:30 flight on December 6th rather than a 02:30 flight.  Several groups followed his to the airport that night and all were there by around 4am and many had different flight times to different locations.  They all just hung out, went to the USO and found a place to crash.  He said guys that were in the last group to arrive at the airport were some of the first to fly out later that morning.  Luckily for my son, my ex and my daughter were able to go to the airport and spend 4-5 hours with him before his flight.  I did not go to PIR.  Typical military planning.  They had better get used to it because it won't be the last time things like that happen.  I experienced similar situations when I was in 30 years ago.
