Navy Dads

Does anyone know about PRP and is it a good deal? My son is in A school and he seems to be interested in PRP but he doesn't know anything about it.

Brain, PRP is security for the nuk sub bases. My son is in Kings Bay right now in the PRP Program but has just started a couple weeks ago. Havent heard to much yet but as of now seems to like it. Wish I had more info you on this. If your Sailor wants to stay in one spot for the rest of his enlistment it could be a good deal.

Thanks Terry.  He does want to stay in one place so that he can go to college.  He hopes to go to Kings Bay so that he will be closer to us when we move to Nashville later this year.

Thanks guys for the info.  My son did get PRP and will be stationed at Kings Bay, Georgia.  This is good for me since we will be moving to Nashville next year he will be somewhat closer.

My daughter is currently PRP in WA. She started out in a combined Navy/Marine unit. A couple of months later got moved to Harbor Patrol, which is a Navy unit in a Marine command. She doesn't care much for the Marines. They're too loud for her. But she has no problem putting them in their place. They may not like her, but they WILL respect her.
She's not too happy with the hours. Being a Marine command, the hours are weird. But she likes what she does.
When she was with the Marines she qualified on the M240, getting top shot and out-shooting the Marines. That was cool.
I don't know how GA is. Is it worth it? Considering the classified nature of PRP, and the trust required to guard high-value assets (I don't think the Navy likes us talking about WHAT they are guarding, and it could make them bigger targets, given the nature of the current threats), as I tell Kasea, it may not get you anything in the near future, but that qualification looks good in your record and may open some doors down the line. I hope this helps.

My son did go to Kings Bay and he likes it.  The hours do suck because it seems he has been working graveyard.  He works with the marines, as well.  all in all it's been a good deal.

I just talked to my daughter. Another benefit of PRP is that it counts as sea duty.
