Navy Dads

Once again, we struggle to understand a horrific tragedy that took place in our beloved nation. The South Carolina Church shootings. As the talk turns immediatly to the politics of the day. Some say mental health programs others gun control and so on. I see a different problem that never even seems to be addressed,Fathers. When I see  young people acting out disrespectfully or in this case and too many others violently. I always wonder where did they learn this behavior? What did they see at home that makes this seem OK? What environment produced this damaged soul? Where was the MAN in this childs life? Where was the Father? I am a Southern man born ad raised . Majority of my life in Alabama. Guns ,race and church have always been a huge part of the southern culture. But my Father taught me how to handle a gun properly ,respect my God as well as other peoples beliefs and my God tells me to love all races. This young man and many others like him never had a chance at being a good man ,because I would wager he never saw one. I love you Dad thank you for never giving up and taking the easy way out,Happy Fathers day, We need more like you.

The "institution of the family" has severely eroded away over the last few decades and the horrific things we have had to deal with when young people have committed such egregious acts, I believe, are a result, in a large part, of the failure of the nuclear family.

It seems as though this kid did have a father in his life. There's no telling what happened to turn this kid into a killer. I don't understand the significance of "race" in peoples lives. Scientifically speaking, it doesn't exist. There's nothing in our DNA that distinguishes us as different races. Either way, this was a very sad, senseless, tragic event. I feel for the families of the victims, and of the perpetrator as well.
