Does anyone know of Recruits get time off for Christmas during bootcamp?

My son ships out Nov. 16 for GL. He has passed the NAVY Diver PFT so that seems to be the direction that he is heading. His mom is wondering if he will get to be home during Christmas? Since his PIR will not be until sometime in early January, I wasn't sure and do not want to hold out hope to her, but she is still wondering.

If I remember correctly, she will not be able to come home but I think you will be able to visit her there for Christmas. I'll check into it and will get back to you with something more concrete.
Just to chime in, my son shipped to RTC in November last year and PIRd in early Jan 2009. He did not get to come home for Christmas nor were we able to visit. Keep in mind, while he will be on holiday routine during this time, he will still have lots to do. I was hoping for the same thing last year, but that isn't they way the Navy operates.
Our son said he's shipping out to GL on Nov 24th, but that doesn't seem right to me. I've also heard different lengths of time for bootcamp, 7, 8, 9, and 9.5wks. Can someone chime in with the answer to that one? :)

Thanks,

Jim
Jim,
Yes on the 24th. The Navy does not take breaks when it comes to boot camp. It will be 8 weeks. My son went in 9/8 and his PIR is 10/30. Holidays will be treated as a standdown day or a Sunday, day of rest.

Thanks Randy. He met with his recruiter yesterday for his final "P-test" lol, and the recruiter told him 9.5wks, so don't know. He said that the week of the 24th was P-week, and his bootcamp would start the following Monday.
It'll all be clear soon enough.

I don't believe they get any leave or liberty at all until boot camp is completed and they're "sailors", unless it's due to a family emergency.

Jim
Can anyone verify that sailors who complete basic or technical training may request 10 days of leave en route if their first duty station is in the CONUS (within the states)?
I received a letter from my son last week and he wrote that the SRs in GL (at least in his div) might...MIGHT...get day leave for Christmas. That means they might get leave for the day and have to be back on base that same night. This, I understand, is also contingent on how well the SRs do in training, obedience, etc. That is why it is a huge MIGHT
