Navy Dads

Did not graduate held back for 1.5 mile run under 15 minutes. Has 8 chances to pass.

My Daughter was not able to complete the 1.5 mile run under 15 Minutes and was held back and put on Light Duty because of a illness. She is feeling better but has not passed in the last 5 runs. Also they are having her group do Yoga on the floor without any mats on the floor. She says this is hurting Her joints and making it more difficult for her to do the run. If the Yoga is giving her pain and making more difficult to do the run She should be excused from doing the Yoga.

She said they only get Eight tries to pass the Run. If she does not pass She will be processed out of the Navy and have to take a Bus back home to California. She is 19 years old and I'm worried about Her having to travel back home by herself.

John....rather than be worried about her failing, I would advise you to encourage her to push herself and get through this. Make each call or letter be one filled with positive thoughts. Her RDCs want her to succeed....as do all of us here on Navy Dads! Let her know that we are all pulling for her. Keep us updated!

Tom,

My son not only did not pass the run, he failed the swim and prone part of his pfa. He was put into what they call a FIT class for those that do not pass after so many tries. He was also told "Dont Pass you are out". This is intended to motivate them to push forward. My son told us that there was a recruit in his fit class that had been trying to pass the prone for 2 mos!!! because he kept trying and didn't give up my son was able to help him with some tips on how to do it and he passed, so its hard when you can't do anything to support her from afar but just tell her to follow this motto "Winners never quit and Quitters never win. Don't take this motto literally I know she has her heart on being a sailor and She will do it. Like Tom admin said, best to keep up her spirits and encourage her whenever you can. I would love to hear from you that she has accomplished her wish to be a sailor in the U.S Navy. As for the Yoga part? unless she can verify a specific health issue as to why she can't do the excercise on the floor she will have to continue to try. They definitely look to see how you react to adversity, as long as she keeps pushing and no matter what has the attitude to succeed they will go the extra mile to see that she does graduate. Good luck

Thanks for that Frank. I hope that John can pass those words of wisdom on to his sailor!

Frank,

From my conversations with my Daughter, She likes being in the Navy and has not given up on passing the 1.5 Mile Run. She is feeling better, and sounded good on our last phone conversion. She had to walk the last part of the run when she first started, but has been running all the way since then. Her best time so far is 15:30.  I'm an Army Veteran 1973 to 1976. So I know what she must be going through.

I have given her my support since she graduated High School, and went into the Navy DEP program. She was offered a Culinary Specialist (CS) or Hospital Corpsman Training after she went to MEPS. She took the Hospital Corpsman Training with an Enlistment of Five Years.

She has called me on Sundays but has not called me since Sunday, February 28th. I have not received her new Ship address yet. I hope to hear from her this weekend.

Good luck, I'm pulling for your daughter. Hopefully you hear from her soon.

My Daughter called today Sunday she told us that She was unable to call last week because some people in her group were not ready to go the Navy Exchange on time so everyone lost their chance to go.

She has one chance to do the 1.5 mile run this Monday. Her last time was 8 seconds off so I told her to put 110% in Her last try so She can move on to Battle Stations. We are all rooting for Her to pass!

thinking about your daughter today, hoping for the best, wishing there was something we dads could do to help. I'm praying that she makes it.

We are all rooting for her!!!!

My Daughter just called today with great news that she pass the 1.5 Mile Run with a time of 14:30. Next she will be moving on to Battle Stations. Thanks to everyone for your Support!

YAY!!! I'm so glad to hear this John. Now you can rest a little easier!
