Thought we might start some sort of discussion area for Great Lakes Lodging to help you plan your trip to PIR.

Try this link for several reviews of some area hotels:

Navy Lodge also offers rooms with a kitchen set-up for only $72.00 a night. You can save some money by cooking your own meals as opposed to eating out. Looking at the pics on their website, the rooms look clean and the kitchen set-ups have what you need (stove, microwave, fridge, sink, dishwasher, etc).

Good Morning all!  Planning our trip for PIR and looking for hotel near by under $100 any suggestions?

My name is Ken and my daughter Christine has her PIR on June 17th. I booked  2 rooms at the Wyndham Glenview Suites. Their site said it was 16 miles to RTC. It seemed to have a lower rate for my large family I guess because it is farther away from RTC. If anyone know the area I would like to know if I made a good decision and what kind of traffic should I expect.

I don't know the hotel, but the traffic WILL BE very heavy the morning of PIR....it always is. If you are driving, plan on an early trip from the hotel. You may want to see if they offer a shuttle to RTC...it does make it a bit easier (plus a little walking...)

Traffic at the base can be nuts....allow plenty of time if you are driving.  RTC will NOT allow anyone in the drill hall after 08:45 even if they are on the guest list.  Plan ahead and see about that shuttle/taxi!
