Navy Dads

Just saw the email that you can no longer attend graduation!  Makes you wonder if there is something to this virus besides the media hype. They also cancelled a huge event here in Austin that would have brought in 1/2 billion in revenue.

We attended in 2014 when our daughter graduated, and our son ships off next week. Maybe it will change by May, but doubtful since this will probably get worse before it gets better.

Waiting to see if they cancel our pass to see him take the final oath next week before he ships out WEDS to the Lakes.

2 out of 3 kids went Navy! Our daughter just did 5 and is now in college full time using her GI bill. The Navy treated her very well.

read the notice....PIR is NOT canceled just suspending guest attendance at graduation ceremonies - Graduations themselves will continue

I read the notice. Read my post "Just saw the email that you can no longer attend graduation!"

Any word on lifting guest attendance ban? My son was finished with quarantine and started training Tuesday.

bet it will not be anytime soon......

Nope.  Just the virus.  Given it's aggressive rate of infection and the potential harm, the United States Navy -- as are all the services -- are taking extra precautions to keep the fleet both ready and strong.

My kid grad today.  He did quarentine for 2 weeks. Then someone tested poz around week 5 and he went back to quarentine.  I think graduation is cancelled becuase they arent streaming it.  The first couple ofnweeksnafter attendance was cancelled u could watch it online

* * *  Graduation Ceremony Suspension  * * *

Effective immediately, the U.S. Navy is suspending all Recruit Training Command (RTC), in Great Lakes, IL, and Officer Training Command (OTC), in Newport RI, formal, large-scale graduation ceremonies until further notice as part of its proactive approach to protect our mission and limit the potential spread of COVID-19.
Recruits, Officer Candidates and students will continue to graduate, but the transition from Recruit or Officer Candidate to Sailor will be marked by small, internal events which cannot be live-streamed.
This decision was made after considering recommendations from the CDC and medical professionals, to support the well-being of our students and staff, and to maintain our mission essential function of providing basically trained Sailors to the fleet.
While graduation is an important symbolic event for Sailors and their families, it is not essential for training, and in light of concerns in gathering large groups of individuals together, it would be inappropriate to continue the ceremony at this time.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation, and will resume graduations and guest attendance as soon as it is safe to do so.
