Son to leave for Navy Boot Camp Oct 28th, what to expect?

Our son leaves for boot camp on Oct. 28th. We are very proud and also starting to feel very sad. We are very new to this and are going through many emotions. Any advise or help would be great. Mansfield, Ohio

Tyler should be at Great Lakes as we speak. Good luck and God Speed to all who arrived today. We are very proud of all of you.
Sean called (my son) last night about 2145 our time (west coast). Said they had just arrived at the Airport and there were 8 or so other recruits. they were on the way to the USO office then on to the base. He then called again at 2345 our time and said he was at the base, and that he would be in touch in about 3 weeks or so. So I guess it begins.

A note to all....the more you stay on the site and the more active you are, the faster the weeks will go and the more you'll understand about what your sailor is doing. Soon it'll be PIR and all the worry will be worth it!!

Our son left today also. as far as I know my ex wife nor his sister have heard anything from him as of yet. this last couple of days have been very emotional for us also. So I guess we will hear something we he gets a chance.
Just heard from Tyler at 8:29pm with the same message.

Good deal. So is this something your boy has been looking forward to? Sean has wanted to go into the Navy for many years even had foot surgery a couple of years ago so he could pass all the physical stuff

I am glad Sean is able to do what hes always wanted. He must be very excited. Tyler went to Akron U for a year, ran out of money, tried to find a good job and could not. He has talked about the military even out of high school. He made the decision this past April to join the Navy. He had problems getting in with his eyes, but finally was able to. He was excited, nervous and emotional when he left last night. Most of all he was happy as now he has a path and a career.

Sean has been the DEP program for almost a year. so he was pretty excited about getting going although when I talked to him about midnight here he sounded pretty stressed. First time away from home etc so hopefully it will be a postive experince all and all. What is Tyler going to do when basic is over?

Tyler will go to Meridian MS for his "A" school as a Logistics Specialist or LS. What will Sean be doing?

He is going to MA (Master at Arms) in San Antonio. He had actually qualified for the SWCC program. he had taken the physical etc but was a couple of points below what was needed on the written portion. The recruiters had been working on getting him a waiver and it still may come through while he is in basic. If he ends up doing that then he will be going to San Diego.

he is going to Master at Arms in San Antoino. Sounds like yours and Thoms son will be going to the same A school.
