Well guys, prayers do get answered! I got a call from my sailor today and he just received his orders-he will be on shore duty, no sea duty, for 3 years, in Hawaii. He's super excited, and I an super relieved. Never been to Hawaii...vacations here I come!! No IA for him, again-Thank God!!

Yes I know. Nick is headed for the Nimitz, that will leave San Diego for Bremerton soon. I told him to get there and find out what is going on, then we will figure it out. He wants to by an old Mustang, he has a 1999 V6 now. He is saving almost all of his pay, he his frugel and knows what he wants. The hard part is do you want it to sit for 6-9 months while out to sea. Sounds like he got a good assignment, Maryland is nice and has allot of history.

I try to use reasoning with mine too, rarely ever works. Kyle is wanting to buy a truck before he leaves to Patuxant, trying to convince him to get a good used vehicle or a new small car that he can pay off quick and then save to buy a good truck later. He at least is looking at a work truck (basic) so that he can keep the cost down. Fuel will eat him up if he drives very much.

Sorry Paul I had a brain failure, your in Tucson right. Being in Phoenix I know what you mean about fishing. Yes They do sometimes listen and follow others suggestions, and sometimes they get to Gung Ho and volunteer for duty in an active zone. I saw that with Corpsman and Marines. I told him I'm proud of you and I know your Gung HO, but think long ands hard about your decissions. Good luck.

Yes, I'm not sure on the spelling either, according to what I have found on the internet it is where they do the Operational Readiness testing for new planes, UAV's, etc. High Tech stuff.

Pax River would be Pautuxent(sp?) River NAS, MD, I believe.

So where is Pax River? What is it that is different about this location? I need to try to sell a better job/location to my sailor at A school while I'm here in AZ. Anyone have any good input please send it my way! Kind of hard to take him fishing and talk from here. He loves being an IT, I'm just concerned he's getting talked into something by other guys without thinking about the potential outcome of his decision.

Kyle finished his last mode today. He will graduate on the 22nd. He's going to Pax River for what I assume will be three years. He wanted to be on a ship but I think this will be a primo job for an IT person.

I know thats why we talked them in to the Navy right. Even though there is always a possibility. I always said I didn't join the Navy to be a Marine, but as a Corpsman I spent my last year with them. Good luck, take him fishing and have a talk with him.

IA is Individual Augmentee. From what I read it is about 3 additional weeks training at an Army base with weapons, etc. and then they get shipped off doing their Navy trained rate with the Army, in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. I'm not real excited about this consideration on my sailors part. Hope it passes....
