Tim, here is the offical message from the Navy that establishes the Information Systems Technician Sumarines (ITS) rating.  Even though the message says they are only taking E4-E6's, they have to begin the process to backfill those that will be lost through attrition.  He might just fit into the window for this new rating.

Tim,

They just recently approve a new IT rating.  If your son can handle submarine duty, then this rating is for him.  He will make rate extremely quick, because it's brand new.  Let me see if I can find some info on it.  It was just released yesterday....

Tim, these other fathers can tell you that info about IT.  My expertise is with General Navy stuff, and any CT rating questions.

If you look above in the discussion area, you will see "What does the IT rating do? ~~~ Offical Navy info sheet....", that is petty accurate concerning the IT rating.

Your son should realise that the new "IT of the Future" program will be in full swing when he DEPs in.  He really needs to read this  He also needs to understand that will will probably need to obligate for 6 years.

Tim,

The AFQT really doesn't mean much, it is only used to see if a person is qualified to enter the Navy.  The minimum score is 35,  but they have raised it temporary to 50, since so many recruits are coming in.

But for the IT rating your son needs the following scores:

AR + (2*MK)+GS =222

or

AR + MK + EI + GS =222

Here is a meaning of those letters:

Kyle is on his way to Maryland right now, He'll arrive on Sunday. So far his travel is going well, he got to stop at Talladega motor speedway and get a good look at it. He really enjoyed that.

Paul I found this-SPONSORSHIP: A sponsor is someone from your new command who is assigned to assist with settling into your new location. A sponsor is usually assigned through your gaining unit.

A sponsor's duties include:
Contacting you and your family by letter of introduction or e-mail upon learning of your assignment to the installation.
Sending any information about the installation/area, which you may require, or putting you in touch with the proper authorities, which can supply the information.
Answering any questions which you or your family may have, or, again, providing the proper resources to answer those questions.
Being available when you arrive at your installation to meet you, show you around, and help you through in processing.

Nicks sponsor called last week him and was a blessing. Thats when he found out his new unit was pulled off the ship he was going too. His sponsor is a Petty Officer at the new base he is going to, who will help him get checked in and adjusted. No about holding, he had verbal orders, but found out no one ever printed the hard copy. So he finally got that solved. He was due to leave next week anyway, so he's good that way. The sponsor help him through all of that. Stay in touch, I'm also on Arizona Sailors. I guess I'll start one for the new duty station.

OK guys-catch me up about this sponsor thing....

Mike, boy is that true, and on top of that they don't tell them anything. Kyle didn't get a sponsor becuase he assumed one would be assigned to him, we found out too late he had to apply for one. And they wait till the last minute to tell you anything about your travel so it makes it hard to get good plane reservations. They'll all get used to that, haha.
