Some of us have been lucky enough to experience either a Tiger or Family Day Cruise. Whether you are in the planning stages for one or hoping to sail with your Sailor when they return from deployment. Share your hints and experiences here--- but always remember, posting port dates or too many details about upcoming events can pose a security risk....so use good judgment about what you post here!

As I recall Ken, typically stuff starts to roll about 6 weeks prior to a cruise
General Tiger Cruise question . . . my son is currently deployed, due back in 2+ months. A couple of weeks ago, he heard of the possibility of a Tiger Cruise (I had learned about Tiger Cruises here and warned him to try and get me on one if it was ever available). He gave me the approx. date and location details and asked if I could make it. Of course I could!!! Since then, nothing?? My question here is how soon before homecoming does a Tiger Cruise usually become "official". I've seen info about medical forms and I know people need to make/change travel plans. Just curious how much time the Navy gives you to plan. Thanks!
No worries...my bad. What with all the ship's posts on Facebook, hard for me to remember.
Jim
Jim- I edited out the date....that would be a violation of OPSEC as it defines a port date for ship movements...a no-no...
My cruise got delayed, which is good, because I wouldn't have been able to make the old dates. Now scheduled for XXXXXX (date redacted by Paul)...
The fee, according to my package from the CO, is about $45, unless I use their bus for transportation to Mayport from Norfolk, which I doubt I'll do.
Pretty exciting stuff.
Chris also got his first evaluation, after being on board for about 1mo, and was rated as "Must Promote". Pretty proud of that, too.
The Tiger Cruise was great!! The Air Show was great!! The Sleeping Quarters were tight!! The ladders were steep!! The knee knockers were numerous!!! The hanger bay was big and the flight deck was long!!! Woohoo!!!! What fun it was!!!!!
My son has been in "briefings" this week, getting ready for his first cruise. He called tonight to tell me the XO told them there would be a Tiger Cruise. I'm not if he's more excited about his first cruise or if I am about the possibility of tagging along for the few days.
on return from cruise, if the ship has a Tiger Cruise, he'll have to submit your name for approval. Generally any sailor on the ship can sponsor a Tiger with the exception being subs...the space is so limited that there is only space for a very limited number. There is a fee he'll have to pay we well to cover cost of food...........
I have read most all of these postings and from what I gather, my son just puts in a request while on his boat for me to take a Tiger.? Is this for most any boat? I can't wait to do this. He hasen't even reported yet, but I'm looking into it. Does he have to be a officer? Just curious how this gets started. Honestly, I can't believe this opportunity is even available. Steve
I received a call from our sailor on the USS Monterey this morning, and he got a slot for a tiger when they return from Europe. I'll be meeting the ship in Mayport, Fl, for a 3 day cruise up to Norfolk.
This is his first ship, and he just flew out to meet her 2wks ago, so I am VERY fortunate to get this opportunity, and can't wait.
