Absolutely Paul.  When I go on my Tiger Cruise with my sons ship I will everyone all about it.  Just not where and when!  I will be looking for tips about where to stay in Jacksonville/Mayport and best transportation options to the base.   I'll be flying to Jax the day before the cruise.  I understand the airport is about 30-35 miles from Mayport base.

great series of tips form the Tiger Cruise page for the Enterprise:

TIGER TACTICS & TIPS

ELIGIBILITY

  • Tigers must be between the ages of 12 and 75.
  • Spouses or significant others of the sponsor or any Enterprise Strike Group crew member are not permitted.  Tiger couples (i.e. parents) are permitted but will not reside in the same room.

SCHEDULING & TRAVEL

  • While it rarely impacts visits, our ship's schedule is always subject to change on short notice and plans may be canceled.  In the event this occurs, we will let you know immediately to avoid any inconvenience to you.  For this reason we recommend purchasing refundable tickets.

  • If you learn that you cannot join us for a visit as planned, please let us know as soon as possible; so we may offer this opportunity to someone else.

  • Tigers under the age of 18 are highly encouraged to travel with an adult, as some airlines will not permit minors under the age of 18 to fly unaccompanied and most hotels will not allow unaccompanied minors to rent hotel rooms.

EXPENSES

  • The Navy cannot pay for your expenses to Mayport to meet the ship, cover your expenses during the Tiger Cruise itself, nor reimburse your trip back home in the unlikely event that the cruise is cancelled.  While aboard ENTERPRISE your personal expenses will be minimal.

  • Any lodging and meal expenses you incur while in Mayport will be your responsibility.  Please remember that if you do arrive before the ship, you will be required to arrange your own lodging.  A list of recommended hotels at group rates will be provided here when available.  Enterprise will provide transportation from these hotels to the ship on the day of the Tiger Cruise.

  • The cost of the cruise is $60. This covers the cost of meals, memorabilia and incidentals.

  • Be prepared for any extraordinary expenses that may arise during your embarkation.  For example, in the event of a personal emergency that may require you to return home while at sea, you may need to reschedule commercial transportation on short notice.

PACKING LIST

Baggage. Please limit your luggage to one carry-on size, collapsible bag and one small personal bag (i.e. fanny pack or other small bag).  Storage is limited.  Be prepared to carry small items you may want during the day (i.e. cameras, sunglasses, ChapStick, etc.) as you will not often return to your rack during the day.

Clothing & Personal Items. Dress casually for an industrial environment.  Formal dress clothes are not needed. Bathroom facilities are not in your sleeping quarters, so please plan accordingly.  The ship will provide a pillow and linens.

At a minimum, we recommend packing:

q                 Wash-and-wear slacks/jeans

q                 Comfortable shirts

q                 Light Jacket

q                 Long-sleeved shirt (for flight deck), and/or sweatshirts (it can be cooler

          aboard ship)

q                 Comfortable, flat, soft-soled shoes are a must!  Working, tennis or running

shoes are ideal.  You’ll be standing and walking on steel deck plating.

q                 CAMERAS with lots of memory and batteries!

q                 Bring sunscreen

q                 Small battery or wind-up alarm clock

q                 Personal toiletry items (i.e. soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc).

q                 Shower Shoes

q                 Towel & washcloth

q                 Eyeglasses and Contacts.  A back-up set of glasses is encouraged.

q                 Medications.  Bring any medications you take with you.

Unacceptable Items.

q                 Skirts, sandals and open-toed shoes are NOT PERMITTED.

q                 Alcohol

q                 Weapons

MEDICAL. Shipboard life is arduous and you will be doing considerable walking, including climbing many flights of stairs.  You may also be subject to extreme heat and noise levels.  Be sure you are in the best possible health for your visit.

  • It is imperative that you honestly complete the Medical Screening form.  If you answer “Yes” to any of these questions or if you list any prescription medication, you may need your physician to complete the “Letter to Physician” form in order to clarify any existing conditions.

  • All medical questionnaires will be reviewed by a Navy physician.  Every effort will be made to accommodate your medical needs, however, permission to participate in the Tiger Cruise may be denied if it is felt that your health or safety may be compromised.

  • Emergency Treatment. In an emergency, medical or dental treatment is available onboard ship or at shore stations where civilian care would not be available to you.  Please advise us of any special medical condition you may have so we can take it into consideration (see Medical Screening form).

  • Sea Sickness.  We want you to enjoy your time about the ship.  However, if you are susceptible to sea sickness or think that you are, it is highly recommended that you bring your own sea sickness pills and bring an ample supply for a 48-hour period.

  • Alcohol is not permitted onboard and will be confiscated.

SMOKING. Due to the enclosed spaces and volatile environment of ships at sea, smoking aboard is permitted but restricted to a very limited number of areas.  Once aboard, please ask your escort where these areas are located.

Please check this site often as we will attempt to add new information as it becomes available.  We look forward to your arrival.

Charles: We received the medical forms first from our Sailor, then he sent the registration form shortly thereafter. We got all the forms from him.

Dave: Thanks. I'll send you a pm.- Jeff

Jeff/Laura,
Just saw your post from Sunday. Congrats on your opportunity to be part of a Tiger Cruise. Last month I was on the Lincoln Tiger Cruise. It was phenominal. Works cannot describe the awesome experience I had. Anyway, I stayed at the Ala Moana Hotel. It has recently gone through a major upgrade and was perfect for the 3 nights in Honolulu. Very short walk to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and the Ala Moana Park, which has a beautiful beach and park. The cheapest refundable flight I could find to Hawaii was with Alaska Airlines, from California to Hawaii. They offered a package to stay at the Ala Moana Hotel when I purchased the flight tickets and it was a very good price. I noticed that when I paid for the hotel it had an Orbitz receipt so you may try that as well. You will find that things are a little pricey in Honolulu. My son and I spent very little time in the hotel, so hotel on the beach with a view would have been a waste. You can "friend me" and send me an email if you would like to know more details. For me, it was difficult and slow to get the information I needed.
Good Luck,
Dave Moreau

Looks like I might be a tiger on the USS Vinson upcoming cruise. Anyone else? Also, any info any of you may have on hotels in HI or other things I'd appreciate. I am flying out from So Fla. Thanks!
