Kris, I hope you enjoy your visit with your son. My son also has 2nd leave and I will be sharing him with his friends, in New Mexico, lol. I can't really complain though because he was home in Maryland for a week in May and our family had him all to ourselves. :) I will be driving to NM starting on Saturday, so I can be there when he flies in to Albuquerque next week. (we lived there until last May, so we still have family and friends there). Somehow the 30 hour drive seems like it will fly by since I'm heading to see him.
Excited to see my son soon as he has 2nd leave 08/7-21...he'll be here in WI first (gotta share him with my ex) and then Ny to see his GF. He's not real excited about the short turn around time for deployments. The sailors realize its part of their job & what they signed up for but they are still bummed to go out again so soon.
Unfortunately to be honest if someone's going to put my son in harms way I'd prefer it to be a republican. - hopes thats not to political?
Philip M that's awesome! Please say hi to Elizabeth for us. We're expecting and eagerly waiting to see our nephew Justin as well before deployment...
Our daughter is home for a few days before heading back to get ready for the upcoming deployment. This will be her first long deploy and she is both excited and nervous.
We are trying to strike a balance between cramming as much into the little time we have with her and not overdoing it. (Don't want to give the impression this is the last time we are going to see her).
We also have started our own Stennis Facebook page for friends and loved ones. We have made contact with lot of great people there too.
This is going to be the first LONG separation she and her mom have had.
I can't agree more with everyone's observations. Spoke with my son after his return from CQ's and they are ready. Having been on 2 TC's, one with each of my sons, watching and talking with our sailors, and experiencing first hand ship operations, I can say that there are no finer men and women than our Sailors. The dedication and team work is exemplary. I'll look forward to having both of them, and their shipmates, safely home from the dunes.
My son is working today, after the 'small" deployment they had,he called me a while ago.
He will be coming home soon for a few days, thanks to God!!! YEEEYY!!
I'm thinking about the things I'll be sending him while deployed...
Well said Oscar. I too was on the Tiger and I'm sorry we didn't get to know one another and visit a little. There were quite a few of us!
I too pray every morning for our Sailors safety and well being and I agree they are an awesome group of men and women.God bless and hope they are having a fine Navy day---------------------------------------

AMEN,AMEN!! OscarA
As the father of a sailor heading out on this upcoming deployment, I understand the feelings of many out there. Having been fortunate to experience the recent Tiger Cruise with my son, one thing I do know, he is in the company of some amazing sailors who are trained to do their job, and who will make us all proud. I pray for their resilience and strength as well of their families. GOD Bless
