Just returned from the Stennis Homecoming in Kitsap Naval Yard.  The turnout to welcome home our sailors was fantastic!  A sea of Wifes, Fiancées, Moms, Dads, Grand Parents, Brothers, Sisters and children packed the pier and cheered as the Stennis pulled into port.  The electricity in the air was beyond words.  Proud to be a Naval Vet, Naval Parent and an American today.  A heartfelt thanks to all these women and men who spent the last 8 months defending our way of life and standing up for America.

It was a great cruise. We had good weather, great sea conditions, excellent crew and a fantastic air show! To top it off, there was a good story on Nightly News last night. I had a wonderful time during a one of a kind experience. As I told my daughter, it was a Bucket List thing. Thanks again to the crew of the John C. Stennis.

At the airport in San Diego on Monday.  WOW what a great time.  I can not begin to express how thankful I am of the entire staff of the CVN 74.  The Can Do attitude of all the sailors on-board was a tribute to our great nation, the training of our sailors and the sailors themselves.

Stennis Sailors Enjoy Steel Beach Picnic...

Story Number: NNS130422-03Release Date: 4/22/2013 8:55:00 AM
By Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Christian B. Martinez, USS John C. Stennis Public Affairs

USS JOHN C. STENNIS, At Sea (NNS) -- Sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), participated in a steel beach picnic on the flight deck April 19 to celebrate the final days of Stennis' eight-month deployment to the 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility.

The picnic, hosted by the Coalition of Sailors Against Destructive Decisions (CSADD), the First and Second Class Petty Officer Associations and the Junior Enlisted Association, featured live music, food and live entertainment.

"For many of the Sailors here, this is the second of back-to-back deployments," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (fuel) 2nd Class Joseph Hodge, Stennis' CSADD president. "Now with the end in sight, we have this opportunity to relax our uniforms, enjoy the sun, and be surrounded by smiling faces."

Entertainment included music performed by Stennis Sailors, a martial arts demonstration and a Zumba dance show.

"It's great to see all of these Sailors coming together at the end of a long deployment," said Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Fuel) Bill Maloney. "It shows that we can still all come together and show support and care for one another. It's a good feeling."

The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group (JCSCSG), consisting of Stennis, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21, and guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), is returning from an eight month deployment from the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility...
