No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Needs some help with some navy acronyms. My son said his division flagged in PI, WTI and ZONE. PI i believe is personnel inspection, but the other two i have no idea. Anyone knows what they stand for? Thanks in advance.

@ David Gjertson: my son is SHIP 03/DIV 076; his girlfriend did get a call from him yesterday. She said he said he is doing ok, but wondering about letters not showing up yet. But we just got his new address in a letter from him not long ago, so he may not have gotten previous letters yet, so started sending them there, & will write more often. My wife has connected with others on Navy for Mom's, & we heard divisions 075 & 076 are training together. Will post any updates on that ship & divisions as I get them.

Anyone else's child on ship 13 div 100?  I mailed out my first letter today.

My son is Ship 03/Div. 075 and I received a call today. It was good to hear his voice. He mentioned tucking my letter away and reading it multiple times that I had written a short while back. I now wish I had sent more. Letters from home mean a great deal to these young recruits.

Dan Sr:  Thanks for the lodging info.  Here is an address to  Sarge's Meet and Greet.  He was also helpful in arranging for transportation to and from O'Hara for my daughter coming in for PIR.

Are there any suggestions to which "Meet & Greet" to go to. I remember hearing about Sarges at the Sun Dance Saloon but there is suppose to be one more somewhere. We will be there in 2 weeks and just trying to prepare. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also, any suggestions as far as things to do with our Sailor for the day that are close by?

SHIP 03 (USS Hopper) DIV 076; if any parent out there has gotten any calls from this ship/div, would like to hear from you. My son arrived @ RTC Dec 3, & well into 3rd week (after processing week). I know we should get a call soon but haven't yet. Maybe you talked to your recruit to get a little insight into this group of recruits. Thanks.

My son shipped out for RTC 12 DEC.  Remarkably, we received his first real letter home today!  The much anticipated letter exceeded our expectations.  It was great to read his words and to hear that things are going very well.  It doesn't sound like they get much free time so letters home may be far between.  What a wonderful day!

Brian H:  Glad to hear you SR is doing well with the FAST program.  It is so much easier to understand and learn when it seems more relevant and one is more motivated.
