No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

because the Navy hasn't posted it in awhile
Where can I find out who the Captain's Cup winners are and the individual list of Recruits that win the individual awards? Haven't seen it posted in a while.
Daniel, we're not sure yet. He was originally scheduled to PIR on 1 Feb, but was put in the FAST program, which set him back in training. He at first thought 2 weeks, making PIR on 15 Feb, but today said that it might be yet another week, due to the holidays.
Hey Brian H, whens his PIR scheduled?
My son was at NEX today and he was able to call home. Completely made the day here! He said the FAST program he's in is fairly easy and he's actually enjoying the classroom stuff. Glad to hear that! The holidays are slowing it down some, understandably, so he's not quite sure yet when he'll be back in a regular division. Just happy to hear from him, and glad he's doing well. Got his address, too, finally!
Very glad to help. I had know idea what my parents went threw until now? I'd rather be back in academy life than sit here and worry about my son, lol. (never mind)(I never want to go back). Anyhow, Paul Olson, check out NavyLodge.com. Its for family members of Navy personnel and offers very nice accomidations for a low price and its the closest location to the base. I did not hear about or see anything about a meet and greet but would look forward to meeting all of the families. My Son, SR, Kline Jr. is on ship 12 div 054.
Thanks everyone. Dan.
Gentlemen:
We are certainly in this together. I can't believe how ignorant I was to the sacrifices military families and sailors and soldiers have made and will continue to make for this country and our freedoms. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and knowledge gained by our recent family events. Dan Sr., thanks for providing a more realistic timeline for when we may expect contact; this will help is mom. John T., your comments on "No news being good news" is very helpful. And Dustin K., a fellow dad of my son's Shipmate 14, DIV 093, SR Eggert, my son is SR Olson. May we be fortunate enough to cross paths during the events of PIR on 8 FEB! We are in the process of making hotel arrangements for PIR and my wife has become aware of some "Meet and Greet" events on the Navyformoms.com site being offered in the evening preceding this important day.
To all of you. THANKS SO MUCH AND I HOPE ALL HAD A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS. At best, my position is very difficult. Daniel is our first Son and his only surviving grandmothers first grandchild and has only one brother. With Dan leaving 11/13/12, we as well had an early thanksgiving with the family. To all of you out there, DONT EXPECT A CALL FOR OTHER THAN I GOT HERE AND I'M OK FOR AT LEAST WEEK 4 or 5. Our youngest Son has been adversely affected by his older brother leaving. So I have had to deal with that. It was much easier with him during a family hunting trip with him. There is something about surviving without electric, running water, bath tub and indoor plumbing as well as living off the land for a few days and cooking ones meals over an open fire that clarifies things for a Father and a Son. His Mom and Grandma are a different story? My Wife and Motherinlaw were very excited when they heard the news from my Wifes aunt whom lives in Chicago that the Governor said on the news that all recruits would receive prepaid cell phones to call home for the holidays. We live with our phones on awaiting a call. A call that never came today. I have been consoling both my Wife and my MIL for the last month and the last two days have warn me out..... Constant tear ups at evening dinner prayer, family that have excluded him with gifts? ect..... My dumb electronic photo frame draws tears daily? I am well versed in this life style and although was hopeful for a call, did not expect one. For the gals in my life, its been just to much to take. I CAN NOT THANK THIS SITE ENOUGH FOR LETTING ME BLAB. It truely helps me vent. I tell Lisa (mom) Patrick (brother) and both of his grandpaps and grandma 2 weeks, 2 days to PIR. This site has let me update them on what Dan is going threw in the current week. OH, its 12:31 I can now tell them 2 weeks, 1 day to PIR. God bless all of you. I can feel your pain and hope that all of you have contact with your loved one soon. Merry Christmas to all and wishes for a happy, healthy New Year.
