No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Daniel Sr. I hear you and my wife, daughter, and I live your heartache too. My son shipped out 12-12-12 and this was a very somber Christmas without our son/brother present. We celebrated Christmas during our Thanksgiving Holiday together as a family. We live with our phones at our sides. My wife got very anxious at one point today after realizing she had left her phone in another room. What a odd emotional response when she grabbed her phone both glad he hadn't called and missed it but sad he hadn't called either. We received the form letter notifying us of his ship and division which is great news; Ship 14, DIV 093, PIR 8 Feb! Now we can start sending our letters to him. We have also included letters to other SRs that might be short on support. I can't imagine any kid going through this without encouragement and acknowledgement of the effort and commitment to their goals.
Its been a happy and sad Christmas eve. We missed Dans first call and have been waiting for a second call for weeks. We know last week was hell week and he said he couldnt call. We had my Wifes family over for a prime rib dinner tonight and it was fun and exciting. My Wife broke down into tears afterwards and it was difficult at best to console her. She misses her first born so bad and I know it. All I can tell her is that she should be so proud and that Dan would not want her to cry. I have to admit, I have carried my phone with me every day and have slept with it on every night waiting for a second call. It just wasnt and wont be Christmas without him and the only gift the "I PRAY FOR" is a second call so his Mother and little brother can speak to him. I hope that call is granted. Thank you Father and Happy Birthday.
-4' celcius there tonight and it's 27c and sunny here today for christmas. Wee bit of a difference.
Wow, this place is legendary for information. Thanks. I've just emailed them. I certainly don't expect to hear back in the next couple of days because of the holidays but I'm sure they'll respond.
I knew I had their email address somewhere Gordon: e-mail at rtc.pao@navy.mil
Cheers Paul.
right now Gordon it would be difficult to track down people to help.....I would not call the Red Cross, as you indicate this is not an emergency. You may want to contact the RTC PAO after Christmas....

What a fantastic forum. My son shipped off to bootcamp on the 13th Dec via richmond VA. As I live in australia his box of clothes was delivered to a very good family friend.
We almost always communicated via skype and other online avenues. He does know my mailing address but not sure he has the ability to post international mail during bootcamp. I'm trying to figure out how I can send him letters but I don't actually know his division yet so therefore no proper mailing address for him.
I did read where I can contact his recruiter but I didn't actually see an email address for him. I'm also not sure the office would be manned over the christmas holidays. Not sure it would be appropriate to go through the red cross as it isn't really a family emergency. Any other ideas how I can get that address?
Merry Christmas everyone. Got our son's first letter just a little while ago. My wife's at work, so I'm waiting to open it until she gets home. :)
