No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

believe this still holds:

Certain categories of enlistment entitle the recruit to enlist at a paygrade higher than E-1. Advancement (and pay) is effective the first day of active duty. However, while individuals are paid at the rate of the advanced grade, they do not wear the rank (rating) until basic training graduation. All recruits in boot camp are considered to be E-1s for administrative (training) purposes.

My son is going to bootcamp this Tuesday, he is going in as an E-3 . He is wondering does he get E-3 pay from the start or does it happen after bootcamp. Hope someone can help us out with this.

to all you new parents....direct quote from RTC about mail:

HOW SOON CAN RECRUITS SEND/RECEIVE MAIL?

Recruits can begin receiving and writing letters the first Sunday they are in their permanent ships (barracks). They spend anywhere from one to two weeks (depending on what division they were placed into) in a different location on base. Any mail sent to them before they are even in their ships may possibly be delayed reaching them by up to three weeks. All letters must have a complete/accurate address that includes a recruit's division number. Misaddressed letters will be delayed in reaching your recruit. To ensure you have the correct address for your recruit's ship, visit our website at: www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp

thanks for the good advice. i will call them monday morning. the last thing i want to do is cause a problem with the RDCs. the teachers and students wanted to show their appreciation and they came up with this idea. if there is any chance of a problem i will just bring them to his graduation ceremony and give to him

hello to everyone out there. my son is in ship 14 division 26. words cannot say how proud i am of my son for stepping forward to defend our great country. i have a question, our local elementary school has written and colored thank you letters and cards about 200 of them for veterans day. i have been writing my son in letters but in order to get 200 to his division to be handed out i would have to put in large envelope.  will a large envelope be delivered to recruits?

That's great news.  Same Div as my son, same story too.

It's always wonderful to hear from them.  Some of the parents have started receiving short phone calls so keep your ears on!

My son is in Ship 04 Div 802 and we received our first letter today after leaving us Oct 4th. Likes it a lot but pretty intense.

Very little few time to write, usually he said he will write at 0300.
