No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the non-integrated (all-male) divisions was Div. 950, and taking top honors for the integrated (male-female) divisions was Div. 347.

Ya that is why I called as well. My dad is retired and my mom has her ID card as well. Also my brother is active he does not need to go  on the list  but his wife does  so they can not come as I am a ticket short.

Donna, Thanks. My son is leaving next month for BC and we were having this discussion with my In-Laws, who will be attending PIR with us, and my mother in law thought that she didn't need to be on the list because she has a military ID card since my father in law is retired. My wife and I said that we aren't assuming anything and she will be put on the list. But its always nice to make sure.

Yes a  active military  spouse or a retired military spouse has to be listed. I called the  number on the boot camp info and they   said only the  person in the service and only the  retired person from the  military does nto have to be listed. Spouses don't count.

Can anyone tell me if the spouse of retired Navy has to be on the "list" of 4 people for PIR or are they exempt from the list along with the retired military personnel?

My only take on this from an SRs standpoint is that make good with your RDCs and your odds of making those phone calls might be a lot better...

Craig that's a great question and often asked. Believe me I've never forgotten how it was when my son was in BC and getting that phone call made my day! There can be a number of reasons for this that remains a mystery but the only thing I know is that phone call privileges are totally all up to the RDCs discretion per DIV/SRs.

Thanks....I figured as much, but having not recieved a letter this past week, I let my worries get away from me...One more question though...why would some SR's in a DIV get to make phone calls, yet others did not?

Comment by NavyDads Co-Admin, Gary on October 21, 2012 at 11:49am

Craig when I got the form letter, then I noticed several letters later, my son's return address was totally different from the one that I've been using to send him mail. I too was worried that the over a dozen or so letters I've sent/en-route would get lost in the shuffle. Though he never mentioned any mail change of address in any of his letters, I went with my gut and have always used whatever he had written on the "return address" envelope. The result from all of this was he got all of our mail. Just sharing my experience...
