No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

My daughter Kenzie leaves for boot camp one month from today. She is excited be a bit nervous as to be expected. I just ran across this website/app the other day and think it will be a great way to stay in contact with her in basic and once she deploys later on. Check out https://www.sandboxx.us/ I can write a letter on the app and include digital pics. I submit the letter in the app and pay a fee. The folks at Sandboxx then print it and mail it to my daughter and include s postage paid return envelope do she can write me back. They also provide a postcard to the recruit prior to them leaving for boot camp. When they find out their address they put it on the post card and drop it in the mail. The post card goes to Sanboxx who updates the recruits address in their app so that all friends and family have access to the address and can send them a letter. Sounds like a great app!

My son s PIR is January 29th too. My son says they are super busy, especially now... Lots of inspections and tests so I wouldn't be to worried. Only 3 weeks left :)

We've only received letters twice from our son who is PIR 1/29/16 as well.  We received one, then recently two more at the same time.  He said they are just so busy that he doesn't have much time to write.  We are getting a phone call tomorrow though which is nice.

My son shipped to Great Lakes on December 15.  Got a phone call this morning; the good kind.  My wife and I got to talk to him for about 30 minutes.  He sounded really good.  It made our day because we weren't expecting to hear from him this soon.  He is on Ship 11 Division 101 and his PIR is scheduled for 02/05/16.

No communication since Christmas. Looking forward to next call or letter. Like we say, sometimes no word is good news. PIR 22 Jan 2015. It's getting closer and closer. I hope all is well with your SR's

I was given this idea from a friend of mine who's son went to boot camp before my son.  One day I sat and just googled Inspirational quotes, motivational quotes.  T started writing down one after the other, different magic marker colors or just plain black on a sticky that will fit easily on a letter.  Quotes such as, One Day Closer... You got this !  Strive for Progress, Not Perfection. Every Morning is a chance at a new day ! Nothing is Impossible, The word itself say I'M Possible.  I attach one to like every other letter.  My son said those simple stickie notes have made such a difference, he looks forward to what the next one might say.  After hearing that, I wanted to pass along to everyone else here.  Best suggestion I received ! It's the little things to keep them motivated, feeling positive :-)

If you haven't already done so, "like" the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command on FaceBook. They took pictures of the different Divisions and posted them on their FaceBook page. My son is in Division 080, he was way in the back but still great to see them in their uniforms. Enjoy !
